DD is 11 months and has just had it.

She had a high temp and was miserable for a day or so, off her food for a few days and slept badly for a couple of nights. she also got blistery type spots on hands feet and round her mouth, though not in her mouth which I gather can happen. spots all gone within a few days.

if they get really bad blisters in their mouth it can be very sore and hard to get them to drink enough, that's the only time it's dangerous I believe as they risk dehydration.

NHS info here.

DS barely noticed when he got it. No obviously high temp, not "ill", just a bit rashy.

My dd had it at 10 mths and it was miserable. V&d for a coupe of days, a few nights awful sleep, blisters on legs, chest, mouth, hands, feet that took a good week to clear up.

A few tips I was given that worked:

  • if there are blisters around the mouth she might not want to feed. Try giving calpol or nurofen 20 mins before giving milk or water (in a bottle from the fridge). I also used the Ella's pouches from the fridge as she seemed to find it easier to suck those.
  • try feeding little and often rather than usual spaced out feeds.
  • try putting sudo cream on the blisters.

My dd had it last year when she was still at nursery and there was an outbreak and she had fairly mild symptoms. Then I caught it and it was really horrible. I had a really sore throat to start with (stinging sensation when I swallowed) and sores on my hands and feet that were really uncomfortable. Luckily it lasted only a few days.
