Quick Q! Do I need a balance bike?

Or can I just go for the real deal? Minimal difference in price but don't want to waste money on a balance bike if she will quickly progress to a pedalling one? This is for a 3rd birthday present...

Want experiences?

DS had a bike with pedals. Stabilisers came off just before 5. DD had a balance bike, then a pedal bike. She never had stabilisers but it took her a wee while to learn to push the pedals. Even so, she was off just after her 4th birthday.

I thoroughly recommend a balance bike.

Get a normal bike and take the pedals off.

Balance bikes are good but all you need to do is remove the pedals.

If she already has a scooter (?) she'll have learned a lot of balance from that and if so I'd just go for the real deal. Ds has a balance bike and its been fantastic. Used from 2nd bday to now at 3.4 and will do til next summerwwen he'll be very ready for the real deal. His friend has a proper bike with stabilisers and Ds has tried it and can just about turn the pedals but def prefers his own.

If there's a younger sibling it'll get passed to then I'd give balance bike, but be careful as some are v small. Otherwise go for real deal and take pedals off if she's struggling.

Don't have stabilisers, they make it harder to learn. Either a balance bike or a pedal bike with the pedals removed. The advantage of a balance bike is a saddle shaped for scooting and they tend to be be light and manageable.
