My son (22months) loves books, some of his favourites include; each peach pear plum, hairy macklary, emperors new clothes, on the night you were born, what the ladybird saw, and a couple of cheap car/train books. He's totally obsessed with bikes and trains so suggestions with these would be great. We mainly read them together. The ones he prefers to read alone are more learning/picture books or books with sounds.

Mine loves.....

"The Little Engine that Could"
"Little Blue Truck"
"The Goodnight Train"
"Green Eggs and Ham"

He is really not obsessive about books though we read a ton. He does in general though like anything about trains, trucks or cars.

Monkey Puzzle
What the Ladybird Heard
Room on the Broom
One Mole Digging a Hole
Peepo
Rabbit's Nap
We're not Sleepy
A noisy version of Swan Lake (nice that she points out one of the princesses as mummy though)
An Easter storybook bought by her godmother ("the Jesus died book"!)

Oh no I like Zog... so did DS at that age come to think of it. Especially 'Stop, you silly chumps!', which he thought was hilarious.

Was going to say Little Red Train and Ant and Bee too. Mog was and is loved. Shark in the Park, Pants etc. We've recently got into Uncover & Discover books; biology focus. What Happens Next? is good but they are all fun, with flaps to lift. Winnie the Witch. Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch. The 'Well Loved Tales' especially Little Red Hen.

Ah yeah - Little Blue Truck! My DSis got it for me in Canada; didn't know you could get it here but it's top. And my DD of that age likes DK Hide and Seek Farm, and Noisy Zoo/Farm, as well as the 'Buster's....' series by that author.

Hugless Douglas, Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes, Giraffes Can't Dance, Monkey Puzzle, anything by Rod Campbell and a gorgeous one called George Flies South. There's one picture where George is asleep in his nest with his mother perched above him protectively and DS always comments 'his mummy watching him' approvingly. Makes my heart melt.

He is also a massive fan of Richard Scarry's Things That Go, but avoid unless you have a high tolerance for individually naming dozens of unlikely vehicles.

My DD loves the Topsy and Tim books, and has done ever since she was able to chose ones herself - she now 'reads' them to us as we all know every one off by heart!
I had them as a child and my cousin remembered them and brought the set for DD's christening - although they are more up to date now!

Unfortunately my DS1's (2y5mo) favourite books at the moment are vocab books (My first 100 words etc) which is mindnumbingly boring to have to read every night!! I'm pleased he's so into learning words though. He's slowly coming around to more 'story' type books too.

Giraffes can't dance

DS loved 'I'm Dirty' and 'I Stink'. And anything by Dr Seuss. We loved 'There's a Wocket in my Pocket' and 'Too Many Daves'. Was in Canada so Anything by Robert Munsch and Sandra Boynton. And used to read him Beatrix Potter on long bus journeys.
