1-DS1 in Yr1 not making progress with spellings(according to school) not been changed for several weeks

2- mummy told needs to practise more.

3 mummy enraged that all of a sudden teaching to spell is exclusive of mainstream education it would seem

4 the word homework/spellings turns afore mentioned DS1 into vile/moody/unco-operative alien type thingy

5 ds1 not co-op with spellings tonight

6 mummy looses plot about the whole thing and tears sml red spellings book into no less then 60 pieces in front of DS!!!!!

oK LET ME HAVE IT................[SAD]

how does your ds1 cope with ph sounding as f!!
My ds1 doesn't quite understand that yet and he gets really cross when he forgets that rule!

Sorry I think it is perfectly legitimate to be cross about homewaork adn the naff way schools seem unable to do work in school time. Last year I enraged my DDs teacher by filling in her reading diary for the whole year in one evening. I then told her teacher that I had done it because she reads a book a day and usually doesnt go to bed until 12 when she has finished it. IMO it does not need monitoring. My ds has far too much homework and my other dd who is in year two I just ignore it.

I am changing schools and one of the first questions I asked was about homework. All my kids do activities outside of school like dance, music and drama and my new and lovely head said he would consider that howmework adn that english and maths should only be taught in school. Hurrah!

As for tearing up the book I like it and think it is a creative way of problem solving but obviously know it is wrong! In the end kids should know we get cross too and are not perfect! I have on occasion torn up notes from teachers and thrown them in the bin as they were silly! All my kids get straight As, including my dyslexic son but I think being tuaght to break rules is a skill. Sorry if everyone thinks this is out of line.

well, he's done ok with the rule that ph is f.and we tested him by slipping in a f word too and he spotted the difference. he got 6 out of 10 with that test which is great.i just think it's a lot for them to be dealing with, along with the reading every night, and the key words to learn.

ROFL I told my kids and they said "Huh its just like you mummy!" Just say you are making a legitimate political protest against cruelty to dyslexics or the over use of tests!

I also think Kids know adults dont always behave as they do eg we drink, swear, have sex and sometimes fight. It doesnt give them permission to do it and sometimes I lose it in front of my kids we always discuss it afterwards and when they lose it we also discuss it and say could we have done it better/differently.

I used to be fairly conscientious with my dd's reading books & spellings, but I'm afraid it's not the same with ds at all: usually he's left his book bag somewhere or other, & even if he has it the spelling book is lost, so they don't get practised. But he's only 7 & I don't think he needs it at his age & seems to learn things in spite of my lax attitude.
