Reusables for a baby boy that wees - a lot.

I have a 5 week old son and want to start using reusable nappies. He wees for England! He can wee through his outfit, sheet, blanket (wrapped round him), a folded towel and still soak the mattress underneath. We're going through a packet of nappies every 2 to 3 days. I'm not desperately keen to be washing quite that many nappies so can anyone suggest a make of reusable nappies that are absorbent.

Thanks

the bonus with reusable nappies is that unlike disposables you can boost nappies with boosters, hemp pads and microfibre cloths. They will hold in wee from the most prolific wetter.

Well to be honest it sounds like any reusable nappy would cope better than the nappies that you are currently using
How many nappies a day are you getting through?

Sometimes babies can wee straight out of the side of nappies - you can generally get a snugger fit with a cloth one. Ella's House hemp bumhuggers are good for little babies, but terry squares are most adaptable as there are so many ways of folding them.

Oh and just a thought - please don't be offended if I'm stating the obvious - when you put the nappy on have you made sure that his boy bit is pointing downwards otherwise he will just wee straight out the top of the nappy?

Wills · 27/06/2006 20:35

Have got very good a ensuring boy bit points downwards after he wee'd all over me at 2 weeks . I have two girls and never suffered like this before. Didn't get round to buying loads of resuables with both my girls but am determined to make up for it this time round!

I have a prolific wee-er wills and have totsbots nappies which do the job really well- plus as nemo says you can boost them too. Totsbots are towelling shaped nappies (I would recommend a drier though as they take a long time to air-dry unless you have a warm airing cupboard).

He's so prolific that I asked my gp the other day whether he could be diabetic

You could try Totsbots Fluffles which are micro fibre nappies and boost with microfibre cloths (cheap as chips from Tesco etc). This combo goes for 13 hours on my 3 month old although I use prefolds in the day. Best thing is they dry very fast indeed....
My DD2 can wee on us if we're not careful!

minki huggle are very thick but not sure if they come in newborn size as I bought one for DS as a night nappy as he was soaking through disposables. I use motherease one size and tots bots for DD both fab nappies and excellent for boosting.

Gem13 · 27/06/2006 21:47

We were fine with Motherease one size and DS weeed a lot too. I started boosting the nappies about 6 months. I didn't realise just how much until DD came along!

Bumbles are stuffable with what ever you chose but they do come with a booster pad. AND- the way they reduce in size for small babies is by folding the front into the pocket so all extra padding at the front. We are still folding a bit in ( maybe 5cm)and Ds is now 16wks and 14lb ish . Sounds like you will need good snug fitting wraps as well to stop peeping terry wicking wee on to his clothes.

FlameBoo · 28/06/2006 17:10

I'd say tots, or tots similar bamboo ones for absorbancy - fluffles can be good, but I have found that my DS reacts to them. Mother of eden (I think that's what they are called) boosters, available from www.babykind.co.uk are great - slim and absorbant.
