10 month old gone off her milk!!

My 10 month old daughter has gone off her milk she had 4 6oz bottles two during day one before bed then one around 4 in morning and now she will only drink the one before bed. She gets excited when she sees her bottle but she just won't drink in at all just pushes it out and wants her dummy. Tried giving it her warm and cold and also out of her beaker instead of bottle but nothing works. She has water constantly during day which she loves. Should I be trying to make her drink more formula or should I just go with what she wants. She does not cry for a bottle anymore like she use to she is quite happy without it.

We were the same with our dd, as soon as she was fully weaned, by about 7 months, she went completely off her milk. When we swapped it from a bottle to a sippy cup she'd take more but not much. In a day she'd have 2 lots of about 3 oz, which were never finished. So we have her vitamin drops and hid the milk in her food wherever possible, then dropped the formula altogether at 11 months. Now she's on cows' milk she has 2-3 cups a day. I can only assume it was the taste (it does taste and smell vile!)

I do try to hide it in her food though she won't eat her breakfast with it in. Will have to look at getting her some vitamin drops as I worry she won't be getting enough even though she is on a balanced diet and will eat everything!! What age did you give your daughter cows milk at? X

About 11 and a half months. We ran out of formula and, since it's 8 quid a tin and she was so close to being 1 we didn't bother getting any more (although the money we're saving from not buying the formula is being spent on buying a zillion pints of cows' milk a week - 2dc and 2 adults, we could do with a cow in the garden Grin).

We reasoned that she was eating a full and varied diet, getting extra vitamins through the drops and was telling us she didn't want the formula, so thought we'd listen to her.

I have heard of people switching to cows' milk at 9+ months, though it's not advised (it's harder for them to digest, has fewer nutrients and limited iron), so if you're wanting to cut it out, as your dd isn't taking it, perhaps seek the opinion of your gp, a paediatrician or your health visitor?

DS started self weaning at 4mo and completely stopped his one remaining night feed at 8mo. From then on he's had 240ml formula with weetabix/porridge a day and whatever i can get away with sneaking in his food. He also has lots of yogurt, cheese/white sauces, cream cheese and milky puddings like blancmange and baked custard. He also drinks very little f anything - maybe a few sips of water a day so we give him juicy fruit such as oranges and pineapple. He is a great eater tho so seems to be doing fine.

It's annoying tho because all the food i give him has to be really balanced and thought out rather than letting him munch on what we have and then top up with milk.

My chap turned off milk as soon as he discovered food. He would take a couple of ounces in the morning and night. nothing during the day.

At the time I worried (and spoke to the HV a few times). I consciously put more milk in his meals. Gave him as much yoghurt/cheese/angel delight as he'd eat. I thought about cutting down his meals to increase his milk but decided that was crackers.

A year on and he's still not massively into milk. he'll have a bottle at night (depending on how much dinner he's had). he loves cereal and will get through 1/4 pt on that. but never has a drink of milk.

try not to worry. k
