Because babies are pains in the arses when it comes to sleep. (My 8 month old will only nap in my arms at the moment).

Because she likes the movement and fresh air probably!

Some babies simply won't fall asleep when they are tired and would get more and more worked up and grumpy and harder to get to sleep instead.

You might find it easier if you try to get her to sleep before she knows she is tired (90 minutes - 2 hours after last waking), otherwise, just be glad you have a relatively easy way of getting her to sleep. You can always bring the pushchair indoors.

Mine was like that!
She would only sleep in motion ie in the car or in a buggy. As soon as I got home and stopped the buggy, she would be up.
I discovered when she was about 5 months, that she would sleep in the car seat at home but would only have a 30-40mins nap once or twice a day.
She's now 11 months and still like that!
I tried everything but that's just how she is.

Oh and I could only get her to sleep at home by rocking her and then putting her in the car seat once she was in proper sleep.

Both ofd my DDs would only sleep when in motion as small babies - sling or pushchair. I walked endlessly, it was frikking exhausting. Both of them, without my help, got better at sleeping without motion by 4-5 months. Everyone says babies are amazing sleepers, but that was NOT my experience. In my experience toddlers are the sleepers ; )

DD2 I literally couldn't put down for the first 2 months. She is now 18 months, and when it's time for her nap I take her upstairs, pop her in her cot, say 'night night' and turn off the light. She wakes up 1.5 hours later.

Anyway the point is, bear with it. Babies find it hard to transition between light and deep sleep (which happens every 40 mins or so) and many, many of them wake up during this transition, which is upsetting for them as they are shattered and want to go back to sleep. If they are being pushed, the motion lulls them back without them having to do it themselves. At about 12 weeks I would put both of mine down for the first 40 mins, then walk them for another 40 mins when they woke up during that first transition. Eventually they stopped waking mid-nap and just went through. I stressed about it endlessly with DD1, just accepted it with DD2, and both became excellent nappers.

we don't talk about DD2's night sleep

I think someone said it further upthread, but an 11 week old baby will only be able to stay awake for about 1.5 hours before they get stressed and it's harder for them to sleep. Try my trick after 1.5 hours and see what happens.
