My two week old baby is breastfed and for the past four days feeds constantly.. im not joking I haven't fallen asleep in three nights and im exausted, she empties one breast then moves to the other and by the time she's finished she's straight back onto the other one.. she cries all night and probably sleeps for about an hours max in the daytime between feeds.. I cant cope.. I know im feeding her right because I've asked breastfeeding support and the midwives and they've both checked us over and said were doing great, she is definitely feeding when attached and the midwife said she must be going through a growth spurt but seriously?! Four days.. im seriously considering switching to formula

Hi everyone, sorry for taking so long to reply, well things have settled down ALOT today and I actually managed to get some sleep in the daytime :) she's back to feeding normally (every 2-3hrs) and I feel alot better, I guess it was just a growth spurt, as for some of your questionsy baby apparently does have tongue tie and I was told this at the beginning but it doesn't affect her feeding it just makes it uncomfortable for me (wich I would rather live with than cutting her tongue) also I do have 24/7 on call breastfeeding advice from home start there breastfeeding supporters and they come to your house whenever you need them to help, also my partner works nights so I don't really have anyone around to help me as he has to sleep through the day too, thank you for your help :)

Thats really good to hear Wink

I would just say regarding the tongue tie though - you might think its not affecting feeding but it isn't always obvious and just keep an eye out for feeds taking too long. If it continues and isn't a growth spurt, it could be the tongue tie because it can make extracting the milk hard for baby (and therefore be a loooooong feed each time).

I had my baby's cut and I couldn't watch but he was fed immediately after. Once the feed was finished all bleeding had stopped and the professional examined he tongue again (involved pressing down under the tongue and pulling tongue up), and he didn't even flinch, just gurgled and smiled post feed as normal. So it's really not that bad, just in case you need to at a later stage Wink

check out Priscilla Dunstan baby language on the Oprah show on YouTube.

it saved my life and sanity with DD and I wish I had that knowledge when my sons were babies!

Get the tie cut if it would make feeding better for you! You matter too and it's a tiny procedure

If your baby needs a tongue tie to be cut, it's much easier when they're very young. Have you spoken to a tongue tie expert, I.e. the person in your area who actually dies the procedure? Hopefully they can tell you if your child is likely to need it cut anyway when older, e.g. if speech is affected. And if feeds are sore for you then it is honestly a simple procedure.
