Tips for active tot

My DS is only 3 months, never sleeps in the daytime for longer than 10 mins and spends most of his time wiggling or "talking". Complete strangers assure me he is going to be a handful when he reaches the crawling stage. My parents and in-laws just smile. Any tips for the more active stage; especially keeping them safe and entertained?

I've got one of those! He's 10 months now. The strangers were right! I like to find a big safe place where he can just crawl himself into exhaustion. During the summer I used the park. As it is getting colder I am opting for the under 2s section at the local soft play. Good luck!

Thanks BigW. Sounds like I will be doing a lot of running around!

Buy a Jumperoo and a playpen. Be prepared to ditch the cot for a bed much earlier than planned (due to climbing).

If you have one, and it's safe, get out in the garden with a ball, plenty of toys such as a swing, slide, mini trampoline, tunnel etc, a Wendy house, somewhere to sit etc, and get outside! The fresh air wears them out, it's free and contained so they can't run off and there are no stray dogs/dog poo (unless of course you have a dog lol).
Otherwise, inside the house, make the room in which you spend most time completely baby proof, put a gate across the door, provide plenty of toys and things to climb on or in (boxes, tubes, beanbags etc) and let them loose! That way you contain all their crap toys in one room, the rest of the house stays clean and tidy and you can have a quiet cuppa get on with household jobs if you need to.

Watching with interest as ds is also 3 months and exactly as you describe Grin fun exhausting time ahead!

you know DS is the same but it actually got better the older he got because he can do the things he wants to. I just took everything that could hurt him away from the livingroom and bedrooms baby gated the kitchen and put a small lock on the outside of the bathroom door so he can't get in. He just wanders about doing his thing quite happily.

The downside is he was not a baby for long at 19mo he sleeps in a big bed, plays in his room alone, feeds himself, tells me what he wants to wear and is potty training himself while the other kids his age are still babies he's growing up far to quickly for my liking.

As soon as they are crawling get them a rainsuit and waterproof boots and let them go freerange at the park every day. I have one of these. She is now 18m and apart from sleep, she hasn't stopped since she was sitting up!

Good news:

Active tot=good sleeper
Active tot=good eater
Active tot=soaks up new activities like a sponge=good for brain development

Bad news?

Active tot=exhausted mum Grin

Agree with the above re lots of outside play, combine with clambering on mum fun for a happy and secure toddler later. My grouchy little baby was so much happier when he could crawl - that was when I could spend 30 minutes preparing dinner while he zoomed up and down the living room quite happily! (He's 2 now and I still can - sometimes he sits and looks at his books / Megabloks / crayons / playdough too though) Smile

Mine isn't a good sleeper or eater I wonder where he gets the energy but he's super smart potty training himself at 19mo! He can do anything that you show him
