Do it all via Ocado once a week delivery and spend about 300-350 a month. But that's everything - baby stuff, toiletries etc

I go and shop as I need to read each label.
I go every week to asda, found that its cheaper than tesco, although cant work out why.

Go to ASDA every two weks for big shop that costs about £80-100 depending on if we buy non-food items etc. Also pop to local Sainsbury maybe once each week for things that we have forgotten or just fancy.

ASDA is cheap and there is a big one pretty local to us whereas Tesco involves more of a drive. Sainsbury is literally at the end of our road but I think that it is more expensive generally than ASDA or Tesco although it does sometimes have good offers on. I don't particularly like the layout of the Sainsbury next to me and it doesn't carry that wide a range of stock so that puts me off too.

Meat is all from local butcher, the rest is from Tesco (mainly), Sainsburys and Waitrose.

Used to do Tesco shop on-line but I just can't organised enough to do a list and get it done. It's easy enough to pop in after dropping off at school and nursery but I do spend more then as I mooch round the clothes and household stuff and throw in other things I don't need like cornettos and wine!

I've just totted it up (as I keep a running total of the credit card bill - anal? me?) and so far this month we've spent £611.17 on groceries. Actually, that is ridiculous so today I will deffo hold back on the cornettos!

For mom, dad and 1 year old son:
One monthly shop at Asda: £250
Organic veg box delivered: £60 per month
Bread, milk and things we forgot to buy at Asda: £30 per week from wherever.

wanderingstar · 26/06/2006 12:02

Online from Ocado once (sometimes twice ) per week.

I don't buy supermarket meat - freshly cut from a local butcher is far superior imo.

Likewise fish - use fishmonger.

Butcher + fishmonger i go with ds3 after older 3 are at school.

Once every month/6 weeks I do an order through Real farm Foods, formerly Meat Matters, for some organic stuff, eg they have fab fat chickens, delicious lamb, fruit + veggie boxes. They also do dry foodstuffs and household things eg Ecover products.

jambuttie · 26/06/2006 12:26

I go to asda every months spend about £200.

I also spend about £20-£30 each week on yoghurt, fresh fruit and salad.

Every 6 months approx I go to the market butcher and spend £70 too but it does last a minimum of 6 months

Helenemjay · 26/06/2006 16:10

Well i have tried a all of our local ones (Asda,Tesco,Morrisons,Sainsburys) and i have to say i cant decide on which one is best, dp and i have some right old discussions about how much money gets spent at one store and we have sod all to show for it, and then we spend very little at a cheaper store the quality of the stuff isnt that great (we bought some 'own brand' nappies recently that expoded at the first bomb and poor dp was the only one here at the itme so had ALOT of cleaning up to do ) alot of people i speak to seem to prefer Asda so i guess i shall have to give them a fair try!

I do my main shopping from tesco online. Sadly they have a bit of a monopoly as sainsburys, ocado, waitrose etc all have sites that are completely inaccessible. (am sure dh is thrilled that waitrose is lol). for basic things we have a small tesco up the road and there's an asda walmart about 15 minutes walk away if I'm so inclined. If I'm honest I don't really keep track of how much I spend, just re-think it occasionally when dh says at the end of the month "bloody hel what did you spend ll that money on in tesco", lol

TwoIfBySea · 26/06/2006 22:48

I prefer to go to the shop for a browse, I don't like the idea that if what I want isn't in they decide what I am getting.

The weekly budget for food is about £50. So I go to either Asda or Morrisons as I am boycotting Tesco (boo hiss) but I also go to Sainsburys and use local shops (for local people) and farm shops to get the nicest stuff. Not easy on a budget but I do manage to buy a lot of organic or free range as the taste is worth it.

TwoIfBySea · 26/06/2006 22:49

Oh and I also go to Lidl and Aldi for certain things that are better in those stores i.e. Aldi peanut butter. Yum.

Blossomhill · 26/06/2006 22:50

I am saving loads by going to Lidls.

Honestly it is well worth going and the quality of the food is really good.

collision · 26/06/2006 23:31

Why the boycott on Tesco?

We shop wherever really and I dont have a budget - I just buy what I need.

Sains is expensive and I do like Morrisons here and the fish is good there too.

sazhig · 26/06/2006 23:42

All meat is from my lovely local butcher; fruit, veg fish & most dairy (cheese yoghurt etc) is from local farm shop; milk from milkman & the rest is mainly from the local co-op supermarket & the occasional trip to health food shops. I hate the large supermarkets with a passion - its just far too stressful shopping there & none of the fruit & veg etc is very seasonal, fresh or local . I walk to the butchers & the co-op every day and go to the farm shop every week - its really quiet midweek and has lovely gardens for DS to run around & me to wander around after doing the shopping

We spend around £50 a week.

exrebel · 26/06/2006 23:42

I do all my shopping at tesco on saturday. with the big crowd - I have used tesco online but I find that I spend more money online. I spend about £60 a week. just me and my little girl. it is too crowded at the weekend but after too much online shopping, i am beginning to like it. i prefer to browse and see with my eyes what I am buying, especilly fresh food.

does anyone why are the pensioners shopping on saturday also when they can go on tuesday when it is quiet?

brimfull · 26/06/2006 23:46

I get my veg from organic box scheme

meat from local farm shop

milk from milkman

everything else from a mix of waitrose and lidl

schneebly · 26/06/2006 23:46

All we have locally is Tesco, Co Op and local independants so I use a mixture of the three with most of it from tesco as I don't have a lot of money and it is cheaper.

We spend about £200 per month for the four of us (two in nappies until today!)

exrebel · 26/06/2006 23:51

maybe it is because I live in London, cant understand others lower weekly expenditure than me with more people to cater for. sorry i could not help but comparing and wondering. I just got to bed now.

serenity · 26/06/2006 23:52

Tesco online once a month (av. £150) and then fridge stuff/bread/fruit and veg when we need it, so probably another £100 during the month, and I'll get that from wherevers convenient. I try and pop down to Lidl at least once as I like their fruit juice (cheap and in decent size packs!) This is for 2 adults and 3 children, no nappies anymore though, woohoo!

Waitrose, Holland & Barrett and the local independent healthfood store (we're all veggies).

I do at least one Waitrose order a month - would do more if I could get organised. Otherwise, I pop in at least once a week. We spend a fortune on food - over £100/week on average (includes toiletries and baby stuff though) with the three different shops combined. And there's just me, dp and a toddler!

Spend barely a thing on clothes, make-up, CDs, etc - so nice food is our main indulgence.

Used to get weekly organic veggie bag too - just haven't set it up again yet since moving house. Note to self ...

IamBlossom · 27/06/2006 10:57

We do Lidls once a month, and get a massive Freezer filling shop there, plus all fridge stuff, and lots of tins. It's not the greatest shopping experience admittedly, but do you care, if it costs £130 instead of £200 in Sainsburys? i will then do about £40 a week in Tescos for bread and nappies and other sundries like decent crips and fruit and veg. So what's that £250 a month for three of us?
