double pram or buggy board

Hi I have 16 month old boy and I'm due to give birth to my little girl around christmas. I was looking on getting a double pram but the weight limit for majority of them for the older child is 15kg and my son weighs nearly that already. I would love a bugaboo donkey as I know there weight limit is higher but money wise its just not an option for me. Some people are telling me to get a buggy board but I really think that my little boy is going to still be too young for one especially if we are out for the day. Am stuck as to what to do. Any advice would be great. Thanks :)

I have a similar age gap and got a nipper double v2. Dd1 is now over 16 kg and it hadn't even occured to me to worry about it - no problems at all.

I had a phil and teds. 17 months between mine and younger one was particularly chunky. I definitely had 2 lots of 18+ kg in there sometimesSmile

I had a phil n teds and up til very recently my 5year old still jumped in the back occasionally! So I think you would be fine on the weight.

I have a 5 week old and a 20 month old, he's 22lb not sure what that is in kg but I have a city mini double and love it, I wouldn't advise going for a single with that age gap unless your older behaves a lot better than mine Smile (he is a complete monkey but I was hoping that was just the ageGrin)

I use both, and my double is a jogging stroller. Got it second hand, which made it affordable. I only got the buggy board a month ago as i wasnt confident of my daughter not hopping off at will. Early on, I used the baby bjorn a lot with the single stroller for the older one. They (now 3 yo and 18mths) still enjoy all three modes of transport.

Double buggy, he'll still be a young toddler who may want a nap whilst you're out. Plus, double buggy, double shitstore storage beneath. Grin

A double buggy would be easier in the early days. It gives you somewhere to put the toddler, keep him contained and entertained, whilst you feed/change the baby when out and about.

At that age, my ds still had a nap every day and tired easily when walking and needed regular breaks, and although a buggy board is ok it doesn't rest their legs as much as sitting down. We still encouraged him to walk as much as possible and got him used to walking alongside the buggy, but it was good knowing there was somewhere he could go when bored, fed up, tired, tantrumming etc. He's now 2.5 and walks everywhere so we only use the stroller for the baby (who's just turned 1).

You don't have to spend a fortune on one, especially if you're only going to use it for a year or so. Try freecycle, gumtree, eBay, or look for cheaper brands instead of a well-known make. Ours was a cheapy safety 1st from asda direct: not the best and not a popular choice on here, but only cost £120. And he's average size for his age, so is the baby, the buggy was plenty big and strong enough for them.
