Moby/Kari-Me stretchy wrap initially then an Ergo from 6 months worked for us.

There is a thread for slings where many knowledge folk will answer all sling type questions Grin

Close caboo. I can't be bothered wrapping and it's sort of the best of both worlds

Close carrier for when they're really wee. Then an ergo from about 4 months until 4 years. Ergo a bit pricey but it's the best money I've spent; used it everyday for both of mine until they were 3 or 4. Fab fab fab.

Ergo with the infant insert. Best thing we bought for DS. Beware of fakes, I would buy directly from the company.

Lorakk · 24/09/2013 21:35

Thanks Ergo looks great Can you please suggest the website to buy from?

I got mine from The Natural Nursery. Make sure you use an authorised retailer as there are lots of fakes out there. Could you go to a sling library to try one before you buy? Or, borrow one from a sling library that posts them out if you don't have one near you? It really is best to try before you buy.

Get a stretchy initially (Moby/Kari-Me) like another poster suggested. Or can even get a cheapy one off ebay (I think you can get ones at about £20, wish I'd known about them!).

Then once your lo outgrows the stretchy (it can potentially carry up to 15-20kg but it will become uncomfortable for you waaaay sooner than that), you could look into a different type.

You can get a soft structured carrier (SSC), Ergo is a popular brand (don't buy off eBay though, it will most likely be fake). I personally have a Rose & Rebellion which I like. A SSC is good because it's easy to put on & take off quickly (they use clips) and easily adjustable if you want to share it with dp/dh. Different brands will distribute the weight slightly differently though so it's good to try them out before you buy.

The other option is a woven wrap, which is quite a good transition if you've already got used to a stretchy. Like a stretchy it's a long piece of fabric, but because it's woven it is much more sturdy and there are dozens of ways you can tie it (you can do back carries with it as well once your lo is a bit bigger). I have a Didymos which I looove. They're pretty expensive to buy, so I tried one out from my local sling library first to make sure I'd get on with it. A woven wrap is super versatile and if you tie it correctly is the most comfortable in terms of weight distribution.
