Hair advice for DD 9 months.

My 9 month old DD has an impressive head of hair. It is actually starting to get quite long now and in particular the fringe bit is starting to get in her eyes. Have been out shopping today and all the hair clips/bands are saying for children over 3. What do I do with her hair? Do I get it cut?? Cutting her nails is pretty tricky! Are there any hair clips for babies?

ive been having this dilemma for months with 15mo dd!

trked the clips anyway- i think the age range is covering themselves against risks as i see many babies with hairclips- however my dd turned out to be the kind of baby they are covering themselves against as everytime i put a clip in she would pull it out and it went straight in her mouth Shock

i tried little bobbles too, they seemed less risky- but they still got pulled out immediately! Hmm

so...this weekend i relented and cut her a fringe. i did it myself, its not perfect but noone can tell. i now look like the mother of dora the explorer Grin Grin

We just used normal clips Blush That's probably bad parenting, isn't it? Longer hair on a baby is a nightmare, you have my sympathies. I've had plenty of comments from people about how lovely it is that DD has always had loads of hair and I have to grit my teeth and smile when I want to say "really? would you like to try and coax a 14mo into a hairband?"

DD has always had a bob with a fringe, which is thick if manageable. If you think a fringe is going to work with your DD's face shape then I'd just get one cut now as it makes life easier. If not, try a clip - I found the adult snap-shut clips the best, not the fiddly little baby ones - or a hairband. Claire's do smaller sized thin plastic hairbands that worked for a while. Or if neither will work maybe just a trim will help it seem less messy, I tend to find that it's the little local hairdressers that are more willing to cut a child's hair than the salon-y type ones. We once paid just £2.50 for a trim!

I found we had a few months of DD's hair being a frustration, but then not long after one she suddenly seemed to appreciate that having her hair in a ponytail was the best way, and now prefers it and happily stands still for us to put her hair up in the morning.

I use/used just normal hair clips for my DD. They're smaller than the normal adult ones so perfect for baby hair.

It might be worth persevering with the clips and hair ties if you don't want to get dd's hair cut yet. My dd is 10 months old and realistically she's needed a hair cut since she was 11 or so weeks old. We went through using little cloth Alice bands then bobbles and now her hair is normally plated at the front a clipped back. It took a while for her to get used to the bobbled and clips to start with but we found engaging with her as soon as her hair was done would distract her and she'd forget we'd put something there. So maybe try the clips or bobbles for short periods. Our first few times she managed to wear her hair up for a decent period was out in the pushchair. Now we've got a nice little routine for her and she'll happily have her hair done in the morning after brushing her teeth and again with snacks after her naps.
As for what to use in regards to age to start with I was most comfortable using larger adult hair ties as I felt it would take longer for her to get it all in her mouth when she got them out, but now use little children's ones. The clips I use tend to be the very big ones and adult stay all day type ones were fantastic to begin with. I ignore the ages but just make sure to take them out of her hair at sleep time and when she's out of sight for too long but as I said after a while she stopped noticing them it just took some time.

thurlow I know what you mean I get so many comments about her hair but am starting to wish she was a bit balder! I think she is going to have hair like my SIL which will be lovely when she is older but not for a baby/child. Also i am totally useless at plaits & styling.
Will give the clips a go & see if she will be an eater or not.
