thrush ?

jabberwocky · 23/06/2006 21:05

How about letting her go without a diaper as much as possible, spending some time outside? You know, air and sunshine and all that.

aaronsmummy · 23/06/2006 21:06

How old is she -I would let her go without a nappy for a while but she maybe to wriggly for this. My mw advised Sudocream. xx

kamillosan? I swore by that stuff when DD was teeny.
I always kept a tube of 1% hydrocortisone cream too, for such occasions (she still in washables?)

and also give her a bath too as that does work most of the time with my DD

misdee · 23/06/2006 21:22

16months, in washables.
doesnt look like thrush.
have some silk liners, how do i use them?

she has had some nappy free time, and also just some cloth time with no wrap.

Frequent changing and Metanium cleared up straight forward nappy rash. Used a smear of canestan and then applied the Metanium if thrush. But the frequent changes were the key.

Got some cream from GP when DD was like this - I had tried canesten to no avail and didn't know about metanium at the time.
GP gave me something that had to be kept in the fridge which was a combination of hydrocortisone, antifungal and antibiotic. Practically cleared it up in 12 hours on combination with Metanium.
If it's bleeding I would advise seeing GP

cheesecakelover · 23/06/2006 23:36

I used plenty of Zinc and castor oil on one day, then sudocrem the next. Long soaks in the bath and then let it dry naturally. Also let it get plenty of air. This worked for my ds, but he was in disposables. If it doesn't heal, see your gp. Let us know how you get on.

Air dry and use Vaseline as a barrier really worked with my dd but as others have suggested frequent changes.... good luck x update when you can!!

pootlepod · 23/06/2006 23:47

May be worth heading to your GP anyway, as open wounds can get infected and they can give you some better cream for it than you can get over the counter.

But do all the open to air stuff too as well.

SecurMummy · 24/06/2006 00:28

If it is def. not thrush then I always swore by open air, plenty of bathing, frequent changing and infrequent touching. It seemed to work a treat every time, no matter how bad they were.

(I really went for it though, so no wipes at all, pop them in a sink of water instead for wet nappies and then straight into the garden to dry off in the air if it was warm enough, otherwise tried to get tehm to sit on a nappy for a book but kept it undone for as long as poss.

Hope she is better soon.

PetitFilou1 · 24/06/2006 09:59

Don't use wipes, just cotton wool pads and water, frequent changes as others have said and metanium. The raw bits need to be dry for some of the time to heal.

misdee · 24/06/2006 10:00

i dont use wipes, i use flannels and water.

Have you tried calendula cream? I also use Burt's Bees Rescue Ointment for any type of skin problem and it works really well.

Furball · 24/06/2006 11:29

Egg white is supposed to be good, it dries on and forms a good barrier

mumfor1standfinaltime · 24/06/2006 11:46

Ds had this, a nasty sore turned up after sleeping in a dirty nappy (not sure how long for, but v. smelly) poor little fellow.
I let him run around with no nappy for few hours (17.5m) and then smothered sudocrem on the sore part and vaseline every where else!
It did take a few days to clear up. He didn't seem too bothered, but he didn't like a baby wipe on the sore bit, so used a soft cloth to clean him with only water.

yawningmonster · 24/06/2006 11:53

I am amazed it isn't bothering her at all, ds has a reddish tinge around his bottom and it sounds as though I am subjecting him to all kinds of torture when I wipe him up after a soiled nap!!!! "Sore sore, mumma, no no no no no!"

foundintranslation · 24/06/2006 12:10

misdee - someone mentioned calendula cream - I've got an open but nearly full tube of Weleda calendula nappy cream you could have if you want. Not-allergic-at-all ds reacts to it of all things, so I can't use it, but usually it's hypoallergenic and good stuff.

popsycal · 24/06/2006 12:25

timodene - need it on prescription though

alison222 · 24/06/2006 12:48

Popsycal - it was Timodene I used your posting rang bells here. It was fantastic on DD did the job so quickly - but like you say on prescription only

misdee · 24/06/2006 13:07

its not bleeding now and not as red. have mixed metanium and sudocreme together so its easier to clean after each change. i cant use egg white on her as she is allergic to eggs.
