Making friends in Reception class

DS is in Reception. He has asked if a boy from his class can come to our house to play. I know I'm being ridiculous, but I don't know how to go about this! I'd be happy to have the child and mum or dad round - should I just ask them? DS has a birthday party this weekend and I expect to meet the boy's mum then.

His party would be the ideal time to speak to this boy's mum. Just say that he enjoys her son's company and you would like to invite him around to play. I would make it clear it's fine if she stays too. It doesn't need to be long, just an hour or hour and a half. You could have some coffee and a chat.

It's daunting I know, but you're over thinking it.

It is really hard and something I still struggle with tbh. I'm not a naturally sociable person outside my trusted group of friends, so to have someone I don't know round to my house it pretty big for me. However, I have to try and remember it's not about me, it's about my child.

Just go for it, you'll be fine!

Sometimes in reception the mum or dad like to come too (or rather the child likes them to) - you could ask her round for a cup of tea too.

It is really hard. DD1 launched into this in full flow last year and I'm the least sociable person in the entire world! I've never had a parent want to stay and the children never seemed fussed about being in a stranger's house. They're too busy dressing up as Rapunzel!

Right, I shall iron my big girl pants ready for Saturday!

I think I might be scared they will say no. That's really silly, isn't it? I have no reason whatsoever to think that, they're coming to his party, after all...,

Phew. His mum was nice. We're going to arrange a date for tea Smile
