Baby rash on 'front' bottom and just finished an antibiotic - thrush?

I noticed 8mo DD has a slight rash on bum today, not between the gluteal folds but on either side of the 'front' folds if you know what I mean? Between looks slightly red but no definite rash. It is blotchy, no white bits but looks depressingly like thrush, I just wouldn't have expected it in that exact location.

She has never had nappy rash, but finished her first ever antibiotic for a chest infection last week. Could it be thrush? I won't be able to get to the GP for a few days but would treat with Canesten if it sounds likely....I don't want it to get any worse in the meantime? Any experts with experience out there I'd really appreciate an opinion Smile

My LO has this. She's had varying degrees of nappy rash that started on her bottom and moved around to the front, since she was 2 weeks old (now 9 months) despite my best efforts. I never considered it could be thrush. I didn't realise that thrush was visible. I'll ask at our next visit to the paediatrician.

My 11 mo dd had a nappy rash on snd off for 2+ wks, then it came back and nothing would shift it, not even metanium. She was screaming everytime I had to wipe her bum, esp with baby wipes so switched to water/cotton wool, it was so bad it was bleeding. And it was exacerbated by her having diarrhoea at the time.

The doc said it was fungal and gave us daktacort cream, an antifungal and hydrocortisone. That didn't work so we were given another antifungal, trimovate, again containing hydrocortisone, which reduces swelling. This did work. Took a few days though.

The rash was bright red, spread up between the folds where her legs join her abdomen, went inside her labia and up her bum crack. It was also quite bumpy and bled if I wiped too hard... but I needed to wipe to scrape the poo off.

I once read that if nappy rash lasts for more than about 3 days then it is likely to be fungal. ime this is true and dd has had it loads. I find the only way to shift it is to use the cream for a full week after symptoms gone/area totally fine - since we did that she has not had it back.

Plainly you should go to a doctor. I would not self-treat this anyway but certainly not on such a young child. You can visit an out of area GP if you aren't at home you know?
