what's your baby wearing to bed?

The monitor shows it's 15 degrees which I know is too cold and has now changed to 16 degrees but I am worried my ds is cold as he has woken up crying 3 times since going to bed at 7 which is very rare for him. But it could have been noise as dh is very noisy, even when. He reckons he's not.

He has a long sleeved vest on, a long sleeved baby grow and a sleeveless 2.5 tog sleepsack on. This.is what the guidelines say. Heating not on.

What's your.baby wearing in this temperature? Maybe I should.get a long sleeved baby sack like he had as a new born last year.

He's gone back to sleep within seconds each time surely he would carry on crying.if he was cold and not settle back down? Dare not go in as he's such a light sleeper

My baby has got exactly the same as yours, except mines wearing pjs not baby grow. My temp is saying 21oc

CreatureRetorts · 17/09/2013 21:57

That wouldn't be enough for my two. Do you gave cellular blankets? I'd put one over mine office that cold in the room.

My dd is wearing the same but room is 18C.

Can you stick heating on? Otherwise when it gets colder it's harder for baby to warm up.

She's in a sleepsuit and is still being swaddled (4 and a half months..). But we've had to put the heating on - it just wasn't warm enough without it (about 17degrees).

Notmyidea · 17/09/2013 22:23

Mine is in the same as yours. He's five months and fine. Is there anything else going on; teething? Hunger?

Mammabear31 · 17/09/2013 22:33

Oh dear, neglectful mother here - DS (16w) is in a sleepsuit, bag and cellular blanket. Does he really need a vest too??

Rhubarbgarden · 17/09/2013 22:56

That sounds fine to me, OP. I doubt it's cold that's waking him.

Mammabear I haven't bothered moving back to vests yet either. It's only September. It's going to get a lot colder than this.

NewJewels · 17/09/2013 23:58

15 is way cold.

My baby is in a sleeveless vest (as of this week), baby-grow & we've swapped to winter cellular blankets from cotton too.

BUT well over 15, probably just under 20 (yes, that is a guess as no thermometer in room). How does chest feel?

AFAIK freezing to death (not saying your child is remotely close to that!) is supposed to make you sleepy so is they've gone to sleep OK being cold may not wake them. For going to sleep apparently warm feet help!

TravailsInHyperreality · 18/09/2013 00:27

Wow, DS (7 mnths) must be ridiculously warm-blooded - all he's wearing is a shortsleeved vest with a super-fine swaddle gauzy thing draped over his legs which he keeps kicking off.

No heating on.

CreatureRetorts · 18/09/2013 06:32

18c is about as cold as I let it get in our flat when winter. But by then we have heating on quite low (18/19c) but enough to take the edge off at night.

lockie1983 · 18/09/2013 07:42

Be mum alert here too. My poor baby has a sleep suit and two cellular blankets ... Probably kicked off. But it's 21 degrees in the bedroom ... And he is really hot bodied.

I think it really depends on the child (doesn't everything?)

lockie1983 · 18/09/2013 07:42

*bad.

Bad bad girl.

cleoowen · 18/09/2013 08:37

He woke up about 10 more times but settled very quickly each time but would wake again shortly after settling. Very strange. Didn't want his bottle so not hungry. Would fall asleep instantly when cuddled so tired.

Anyway, put the heating on but had a put in on constant and we're in a new house so haven't worked out the boiler yet. Then was worried it would be too hot! Must have been that as went to sleep and didn't wake again until morning.

Going to move the heater into his room today so can have better control of the temperature.

My DD is nearly 7 weeks, can anyone advise me what she should be wearing for bed? She usually has a long sleeved baby grow and is swaddled in a cosy blanket and sometimes with a knitted blanket over in case she kicks herself out of her first blanket! The room thermometer says "just right" but when I go to bed I'm freezing!
I'm so worried about her being cold but then scared to death of her being too hot because of SIDS Confused

surprise11871 · 18/09/2013 09:37

I must have a cold blooded child he has been in his short sleeve vest long sleeved babygrow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag for about 2 weeks now and i always check his chest n he feels just right not sure of the exact temperature in his room but the hall way thermostat says 19.5 to 20 when weget up in the morning i used to really worry about over heating or being too cold and always got conflicting advise which made it worst i started checking his chest rather than just going by the thermometer and guidelines and wud re check when he woke up for a feed however our house gets down to 10 degrees in the winter so i have invested in a 3 tog ready for when the real winter hits

mummyxtwo · 18/09/2013 13:43

Dd2 is in a 2.5tog grobag, which she is wearing with a long sleeved sleepsuit. 19 or 20 degrees here though. 15 is very cold, although babies live in colder climates than ours and just wear more layers so the temperature is manageable if he is wearing plenty.

HPsauceonbaconbuttiesmmm · 18/09/2013 14:46

DS room gets down to 12 degrees on occasion in deepest winter! He's v hot blooded though and is fine with a duvet now he's 3. When he was little I got merino sleeping bags for the extra warmth and so I didn't worry so much about over heating, and I got a merino sleepsuit too for cold nights when he was a baby. Dd is different, she's already in the stuff he would have worn in deepest winter and her room is 17 degrees.

All babies are different. Sammie the what to wear underneath chart may be a useful guide but tbh you just need to make sure they're warm on tummy/back and not sweating!

Helspopje · 18/09/2013 15:32

i use a fleece sleepsuit under a grobag in the cold. mothercare, boots and next stock them for £8-10. when super cold, i put it on over a 'normal' sleepsuit

also useful in more normal temps when baby pulls to stand as can go in cot in fleece suit rather than a groback and lesss likely to chin itself falling over having walked up the inside of the bag
