Max 1 hr long tv/DVD for me and dd

Dd started school last week and as a treat (for me and her), she is going to stay up each Saturday night for about an hour whilst we eat crumpets, chocolate mousse and watch some tv. As our first one on Saturday we watched the film Enchanted which she adored but it meant she didn't get to bed until 9pm and was shattered on Sunday.
So, I would like ideas for something to watch, no more than 45-60 minutes long, which is suitable for a 4yr old yet is still a bit 'grown up' for me. The other month after she had a (very rare) daytime nap due to a long day outing she couldn't sleep and stayed up with me watching Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. That sort of thing as I don't want to watch 'kids tv' on a Saturday night. Thank you Grin

That sort of thing! Would be perfect if we hadn't OD'd on those 2 already!

Lost & Found on DVD is very sweet, and my 5 year old still enjoys it. Coming up to Christmas try The Snowman and The Bear.

My dss has always loved come dine with me and has since moved on (he is now a few years older than your dd) to man v food. It does mean that he "scores" every meal now though Grin even cereal. He also likes animal documentaries like worlds deadliest scorpion or animal planet.

I don't think you can beat Pixar films, though not sure how long they are. Up was the one we just watched and its fab.

With winter coming up how about Strictly? Dss loves that too (but we end up practicing dancing whilst its on).

Gosh, sounds like we watch an awful lot of tv lol we don't, honest !

Btw crumpets, chocolate mousse and tv on a Saturday sounds awesome - I might crash !!

Dd the same age loves the puppet show on Saturday nights and you've been framed which has her in stitches, it's very funny to watch her laughing at it.

I second Lost and Found (departs from the book slightly but is still brilliant).

Room on the Broom is also good.

MrsOakenshield · 17/09/2013 19:45

Lost and Found and The Snowman are 30 mins or less, Gruffalo is 25 mins I think.

The films DD has are The Jungle Book, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland - all 60s Disney, lovely films and all about 1 hour 15 mins. I don't think you'd get a film much shorter, can you not start a bit earlier?

I feel you pain, I hate Saturday 'family' TV but I think I will have to suck it up, the one time DD saw Strictly she loved it and it's harmless enough.

Fab ideas thank you! Can't start earlier as don't get DTs (21 mths) settled til 7 but they are great ideas. She will love Strictly what a great idea and the other films. Grin

We recently went on holiday and decided to let our almost 4 year old watch animated films for the first time. However, like you we knew they were too long so we just did it over two days, he'd watch half of 'madagascar' one day and the second half the next day - maybe that could work? (if you could both bear the suspense :-D

DS1 also liked watchign Poirot with me when he was a bit younger (although not sure about belgian sleuths being that suitable for 3 year olds!)
