Runny eggs - and yes, this does belong in Parenting rather than Food

OK, 'fess up - who gives their pre-schoolers runny eggs?

3yo dd loves soft-boiled eggs and sunny-side-up fried eggs.

Of course I do.Smile

purpleturtle · 19/06/2006 16:35

With you.

At least, we aim for soft-boiled, but they're often a tad overdone to qualify.

Of course.

Why shouldn't you?
I know, salmonella and all that, but surely after about 2yo it's OK (raw eggs are a different matter though)? Or am I being hopelessly naive?
A soft-boiled egg is a wonderful thing IMO.

motherinferior · 19/06/2006 16:37

Dippy Eggie is one of DD2's big favourite things.

flatmouse · 19/06/2006 16:38

My pre-schooler doesn't like eggs - my older one does and has them runny.

I have no qualms however (in ref to other thread) in letting them lick the cake mix bowl which shockingly contains raw egg mix....

zippitippitoes · 19/06/2006 16:38

there is very little salmonella in english flocks now

Kelly1978 · 19/06/2006 16:40

yep, ham runny eggs and chips for tea once in a while, they love it.

PrettyCandles · 19/06/2006 16:41

Especially in Lion eggs, which come from flocks vaccinated against salmonella.

I feel the urge to bake...

What other things do we do that we're not supposed to?

I put dd to sleep on her stomach almost from day 1.

They don't like soft-boiled eggs but they do like fried and poached eggs with runny yolks. I always cook the white fully though, coz I can't stand it if it's at all jelly-like.

flatmouse · 19/06/2006 17:06

i did that with DS PrettyCandles - only way he wanted to be.

julienetmum · 19/06/2006 22:05

I do, and I ate them whilst pregnant.

Now that the hens are vaccinated I don't feel there is so much of a risk. I didn't give eggs at all until about 10 months though and hard boiled until about 1 and a half.

ChasingRabbits · 19/06/2006 22:53

definately, but as with purpleturtle i'm not that great at them - try and get dh to cook them as he does them great, also HATE the white runny.
Ate them when I was pg too
