Funny? Or not?

I recently had the sad occasion to see a video posted by a youtube family that I found quite sad. I'm not sure how right it would be to link it here (even if I am able) but can direct anyone interested to it if they wish....
A little girl, just under one year old and only just standing has had her feet pushed into welington boots and is attempting to walk with her little trundletrolley across ?laminate flooring. She struggles as she has no idea how these boots work and is also surrounded by ?6 fussy little white terriers, making the task even harder.

She stumbles across the threshold to the hall and then falls to her knees, while her parents laugh hysterically, telling her they are not "laughing at" her, but "with" her. They do not assist her as she makes a return to the family room and the boots again get in the way of her attempts to walk and she falls full length while still holding the trolley.
I found this so horribly sad to see but the comments (a lot of teenage girls it seems) on the video are in support of this treatment of the little child.
Anyone else have any thoughts? I may not have described how sad it was to see this wee tot unable to find her feet while her parents almost wet themselves laughing. This was done for the benefit of youtube as they post there every day and have a main channel and possibly others.
I know that I can be a sensitive flower about little ones but this reallly did seem to be quite perverse.

Sounds quite cruel imo. She should be practicing walking barefoot with love and encouragement, not ridicule. Poor mite.

minipie · 02/09/2013 15:24

If this had happened by chance ie the little girl had herself got her feet into the boots and was determined to walk like that then... maybe it might be ok (still wouldn't really want it posted online mind you)

if as you suggest the parents had deliberately done this to her for the sake of a "funny" video that's really horrible.

TwoStepsBeyond · 02/09/2013 16:25

I'd have presumed the little girl had chosen to put the boots on herself and the parents thought it was funny so decided to film it, which may be funny if the little girl is not distressed. If they have deliberately set her up then yes, very cruel.

My ds has put workboots on before and starfished into the livingroom trying to walk in them. I was laughing so hard it took me a while to help him up. He was fine no tears etc.

If it was a similar thing with this little girl, ie her putting the boots on and trying to walk, fair enough, one of the funny type things kids do. However if the parents are forcing her to do it and carry on laughing while she is clearly distressed then thats a different story.

Depends if she was in distress - definitely not ok if she was upset, ok if she was having fun.

Wouldn't do it personally though.

Here is the video (I think); make of it what you will.

Forget to say, mini preview at the start (which was enough for me to get **ed. The fuller "action" as it were is at around the 10:00 mark.

(Ugh - need to find out how to edit posts)

I don't think I can bear to watch it from what you describe. They sopund like utter b*stards. Poor little kid Sad

pictish · 02/09/2013 18:03

Are you due on?
Seriously...I get emotional about all sorts of crap when I'm due on.

I do not think they are being cruel to their baby, no.

pictish · 02/09/2013 18:04

I just watched the very beginning mind you. I haven't the inclination to watch a prolonged video of the McNarcissists.

StephenFrySaidSo · 02/09/2013 18:08

Cruel Imo. Reminds me of a video i saw on youtube a few years ago of a very young baby being spoonfed sonething really sharp tasting due to the reaction on its face but the baby was so young that everytime they brought the spoon to its mouth it just ate what was there and then grimaced it was awful to see. The parent and cameraperson were just laughing at it.

StephenFrySaidSo · 02/09/2013 18:09

Not due to. Judging by!

Nerfmother · 02/09/2013 18:15

Omg not being funny but why do you watch this shit? Seriously, just seen the list of titles and cba to watch it.

DumbestBlonde · 02/09/2013 18:18

pictish - you can skip to the middle (around 10:00) whereyou get the extended wellie-gate.
(And no, I'm not feeling any more emotional than usual. Although that doesn't really mean much....)

Nerfmother - someone else directed me to it; it really is not my preferred pastime....

The thing is people treat their babies like this and then wonder why they hate them later on, or why they become cruel teenagers, why they have no respect for their parents etc

Sometimes I just wish the world wasn't like this.

DumbestBlonde · 02/09/2013 18:48

Me too Rooners. I made something of a stand in the comments - but it got way out of hand.

Well done, that was a good thing to do. YT is always out of hand.

DumbestBlonde · 03/09/2013 12:07

Just to say Thanks to you all.
I know that I shouldn't need validation as I want to be true to my beliefs (without trying to police the internet that is) and I was rounded on
quite vehemently, to the point of questioning myself (although if I tried to
look at the video again, I felt each time so bad for that poor child.....), but I am relieved that even a few people feel the same way that I did and still do.
