Hi guys,
My little ds has a cold, teething (no teeth yet) and is constipated. He has slept through the night since he was 3 months old, but for a week now has been waking up crying during the night. I also feel so bad for him, pooh hard, doctor says he is fine, any tips on getting rid of the cold? Am scared I'm overheating him with dressing him too warm, temperature up and down Hmm

Just hang in there I'm afraid, maybe extra fluid if it doesn't screw up his feeding, a humidifier helped my DD who was probe to bad coughs, and one of those grim baby snot suckers actually worked wonders for clearing her out... Good luck.

Ps I think I'm right in saying that keeping him wrapped up won't help him get better, but if he's swearing loads and losing fluids that won't help with the constipation...

you can get a baby olbas oil which I would put a small amount on a tissue and put it in my DDs cot. This relieved her a little. Give calpol if he wakes in the night and it's been long enough since the last dose.

Snot suckers work, but they are gross!

Hope he feels better soon, it won't last long.

When our dc were that small and had colds, we gave calpol, milk on demand, and water if they were weaned and constipated, didn't fuss about lack of appetite, let them sleep as much as they needed and used the calpol vaporizer plug in thing. That seemed to work better than the olbas oil drops, it filled the room with the vapour and really helped clear their noses and sinuses. The night light on it was useful too, meant we could see to them without having to put the big light on.

Olbas oil, and also the plug-in menthol vapourisers if you can get hold of one. The snot suckers are disgusting but really useful, they normally sell them in Boots - have a long hot shower with DS in the bathroom to get steamy and loosen the snot, and then (sorry) have a really good suck (making myself feel ill writing this at lunchtime!) If you can't find a vapouriser, I used to put the Olbas oil on a muslin and tie it around a part of the cot that DD couldn't reach.

Also try ice cubes, ice lollies, flat fizzy drinks or squash to get a bit more fluid in if you are worried he is getting dehydrated. At that age DD would have a good long gnaw on an ice cube in a cloth because it helped her teeth but also got extra liquid in.
