Mucous in nappies - what does it mean....

... or is it just normal?

DD is 4 1/2 months, and I've noticed her nappies having more and more mucous in them lately. This morning I changed her and there was no poo (she'd had a big poo earlier), but plenty of wee and a whole load of mucous.

If it makes any difference, she is breastfed.

Thanks

Can't say I've ever noticed this with either DS1 or 2 or BabyDragon.

Mucous means that the food has shot through very fast. It's unlikely to be something to panic about it a bf baby but worth mentioning to the HV. It might well be something YOU have had that has affected the milk and therefore DD.

Ooops. Wrong persona!

J&A - do you mean that I might have eaten something that she's intolerant of, or just something that has caused this but isn't cause for concern? We already believe that she is dairy intolerant and are waiting for an appointment for testing.

Did it start after she had that screaming fit followung your consumption of the hobnobs? COld it be that whatever caused that is working its way through her system?

JustifedAndAncient · 19/06/2006 13:03

What you eat can certainly be relevant. It might just be something going through her system that you had days ago.. or it could be something you have daily that doesn't quite agree with her (even if she is not actually intolerent.)

My DS is dairy intolerent. When I was fully bf, I came off dairy myself against medical advice to see if it would help his eczema which was red and weeping ALL over his body everywhere but his nappy area. Within a week you couldn't see he had eczema! So much for medical advice. So just goes to show that breast milk can carry many allergens.

Let's hope it's not those bl00dy hobnobs SD!! Not eaten any since just in case they did cause problems, but I started noticing bits of mucous before the hobnob fest!

I suppose there could be something else that just doesn't agree 100%.

I haven't noticed any more throughout the day, so will just mention it to h/v next time I see her. No doubt she won't have any suggestions if there are none forthcoming from here!!

Thanks ladies.

i would check this out with your doctor. passing mucous can be nothing and my dd does from time to time particulary if she has the runs. however it can be a symptom of more serious ilnesses (in my exp it was an adult btw) so if you're worried have it checked out. hth
