Hi, I am starting an access course in September with the hope of applying for the Midwifery Diploma/degree in Sept 07/08. I would like to do some reading to fully prepare myself when applying. Could anyone recommend any good/helpful books?

I have heard some people mention midwifery journals, can anyone recommend any titles?

Many Thanks Hannah xx

Practising Midwife (subscription only) - very good, quite an 'easy' read, lots of info about clinical stuff plus 'current issues'

British Journal of Midwifery (can get from large branches of WHSmiths - don't bother subscribing, it's more expensive!) - more academic but still worth a look

Before I started I went a bit mad and bought Mayes' Midwifery and other whopping great textbooks - unnecessary until you know you've got a place, tbh! I would recommend reading something like Call The Midwife by Jennifer Worth - fascinating book about midwifery in the east end of London in the 50s.

Definitely check out the student midwives site - I found it invaluable when applying. Good luck Smile
