crying in the night...

Our 8 month old has taken to waking up quietly and standing up in his cot to look for me before bursting into tears. I often wake up to him weeping, holding onto the bars - it looks heart breaking. Do people have any recommended good nightlights? Might mean he's less upset in the dark?

I ask because when I was small I had a night light, and as I got older a tape player, so I felt less alone for having noises (songs/audio book) with me so thought ds might be feeling the same..

We had this from 8 months for a while, it's separation anxiety. I worked that out as a quick cuddle put her straight back to sleep.

Don't think babies can be afraid of the dark Wink

agree, fear of the dark tends to start about 2yrs old, don't think it can be that. Far more likely to be separation anxiety. Does he have some sort of comforter soft toy? Really worth introducing if not, and buy a spare. Just choose something you're happy for him to have til age 5/6.

Or try distraction with something like this. My 3 yr old and 4m old both love it.

Yes a little snuggle soft toy.
If you do want a nightlight we have a few of the IKea plug in ones which are brilliant. Cheap, and activated by darkness so you don't even have to remember to switch them on
