Issues with hips after giving birth...

I had ds almost a year ago, and since then, I'm having issues with my hips. When I try and walk after I've been sat down, even for a short time, the whole area is stiff, and I end up limping until it loosens up. I also cant walk very fast anymore, or for long distances. I've taken up running, and I just can't get any speed up. Has anyone else suffered with this, and if so, any tips to help it get better, please?

Stop the running or at the very least check you've got decent trainers. It can take about a year for your body to fully recover from birth and pregnancy which might be an issue.
Did you run previously? Are you running on hard floors ie pavements not fields?

I took up running about 6 months ago for the first time. I run on pavements, but I had the hip issue before I started running Sad

I suggested stopping because you might aggravate it and it could be a lingering thing after pregnancy? My hips were a bit funny after birth but ok now.

Can you try low impact exercise like cycling? Also see te GP as you might get a referral to a physio?

Thanks creatures. I'll mention it to the Dr next time I see him. Maybe I should try swimming?

Mine have never recovered. Has been 12 years since I last gave birth and if anything they get worse not better, especially when I'm carrying extra weight (as I tend to carry it around my middle). Not sure what to suggest really - swimming is the easiest but I don't think you should be avoiding impact sports. Might be worth speaking to GP - would be interested to hear what he/she says!

Running can be pretty tough on the joints (I used to run) so I would fix the hips first. Swimming is good, cycling (or spinning). Worth trying yoga too but make sure the teacher knows your hip trouble.

I'm sure you know this but pregnancy makes your ligaments a bit softer and your pelvis moves apart for childbirth hence the hip issues. It takes a while to fully recover.

I had to see a chiropractor who sorted me out after having my baby.
