My DD is almost 8 months.

She loves tummy time and just rolling about the playroom; she'll happily do that on her own whilst I sit on the sofa and supervise.

She loves her Jumperoo, and loves singing and signing, glove puppets and playing with one of those foil heat blankets. I've just got her one of those v-tech crawl balls and she seems to really like that too.

I try to do a bit of baby sensory for 30-mins to an hour a day, some singing and signing and some floor play where I roll about with her and play with her toys but mostly try to encourage her to entertain herself in her playroom as she has a habit of crying when people leave the room so I'm trying to encourage her to play independently.

It would be great to hear what other people do as like OP, I feel I need more ideas. She is mostly interested in my mobile or TV remotes and that worries me!

There's lots of game/sensory ideas on the Babycenter website - haven't ventured as far as 8 months yet though!

Ds is 8 months, his favorite thing to do is crawl around and pull himself up on furniture.

He doesn't like to sit still much but he will sit for 5/10 minutes and look at books and play with empty his treasure basket.

He has started to become more interested in musical instruments, we have a xylophone and some whistles he tries to blow the whistle and bangs tge xylophone.

We sing songs, wind tge bobbin up and row row row your boat.ds also likes rhymes like this little piggy and round and round tge garden.

Mostly ds is is happiest crawling around so I have been moving from room to room doing little jobs like sorting his clothes and cooking and ds crawls under the table and empties the Tupperware cupboard.

I feel like I'm really not much fun it's lovely to read otherppeople's ideas!

DS loves rough play, being tickled, flown about like an aeroplane and "I'm going to drop yu". Makes him laugh like mad. He finds it hilarious when DP pretends to throw him onto the bed wrestling style but I don't get the same response.
He'll sit and play for a few minutes before getting bored if I make his toys talk or if I play first but generally he loves exploring since he can now crawl and pull himself up so I don't get a lot of play time as such unless he's sleepy.
He does enjoy his jumperoo but if you don't have one already its probably a huge expense for not a lot of play as DS is nearly too big for it at 8 months.

Ds loves crawling over to the cat food area/broom/washing machine/pulling various wires - basically playing with anything that isn't a toy!

I made him a treasure basket full of safe bits and pieces from around the house and he loves digging around in it pulling bits out and tasting/exploring each thing. I.e colander, shell, toothbrush, bath scrub loofah, orange

Just marking my place

I'm struggling with ideas for my 8 month old too. Although he doesn't crawl or sit up unaided yet.

My DD has just turned 8 months and is crawling and rolling everywhere too. I just chuck carefully place random toys all over floor with lots of cushions and let her explore. I find she gets bored very very easily, especially with toys. Like dfanjo I have bought some household items (a trick picked up from Baby Sensory class) with different textures and noises (loofer, small jar of coffee beans, wooden spoon, hair rollers) that she can feel and play with.

I sing with her, read and have some tv time too.

  • Soft play centre
  • Swimming
  • Books / Library
  • Singing / Dancing
  • Stacking cups / Building blocks / Balls
  • Park (swings, slide)
  • Lots of opportunity to spend time with other people (friends / family)
  • Eating out

I came on here to say treasure baskets, but pp beat me to it.

I cannot stress enough how amazing these were. I made 2 and rotated them every couple of weeks. I didn't follow any categories and they certainly weren't difficult, I just went through all the junk cupboards and drawers and pulled out odd things. Generally stuff we got in stockings, odd kitchen utensils, bigger bits of jewellery.

My DD and all her friends would spend up to an hour just examining sorting and taking it in and out of the box. So worth it!!
