Hi,

DD will be 2 in August,i know that most people potty train from rougly 2-21/2 years. Dd has been sitting on her potty (her own choice) doing wee and poos since about a year but i havnt been able to complty see this through im always going out and just havnt been ready for the training myself.

She hates having her nappy on and loves sitting on the toliet ( not so keen on her potty anymore) but im not sure if shes ready for me to take teh traning further as although she sits on the toliet she no longer actually goes :(

This is probably my fault for taking so long about it, but i wasnt complty sure if to train as dd still wont tell me when she wants to go.

Anyway,..any ideas on what i should do next??? Stick with it and be strict and really go for it?? Dd loves being out, she hates being in the house all day but i was thinking maybe i should stay in for a week or so and see what happens???

Thanks :)

I would take her out armed with a bag full of spare clothes and keep asking her if she wants to go and putting her on available toilets. Make the first few trips short so she gets used to it, lots of praise and make sure you know where the public toilets are!! Be prepared for accidents. Toddlers get so into things that they forget to notice signals and then it's too late.My 2 year old took herself out of nappies and I am eternally grateful that I didn't have to do much. She still has accidents. Good luck

"most people train from roughly 2 - 2.5 years."

It's always struck me as more like 2.5 -3 years on here.

if it helps you ds did poos and wees on potty between a year and 20 months, and then stopped. Whether this was a window of opportunity that I missed I don't know.

He trained 2 months before his 3rd birthday and was much more able to hang on, and we never have to loo dash, we simply go when we pass one.

So frankly I'm glad that we waited until he was older and had better control.

thanks!!

I guess thats how i feel, not sure wheather i have missed out on the opportunity to train, but nice to know you ds stopped too, i cant work out why though!!!

Maybe i should wait, i think with summer here and knowing dd can do wee's and poos on toilet, i feel i should go ahead, btu not 100% sure!!

i think i'l give it a go after the weekend, i'l let ya know how we get on!!

Thanks for advise :)

I missed the window threebob describes too when ds was 20 months as I had dd who was only 1 month old. He stopped weeing on the potty then too. I waited until he started again (that took months) and until he showed interest in pulling his shorts/trousers on and off and in sitting on the big loo. I had phases of perservering with putting him on the pot three times a day. One day last week he took himself to the potty when we were at a friends house and did a wee so I knew he was ready. We're on day 7 and he did well on day 1, had loads of accidents on day 2 and is getting better all the time. He will occasionally ask to go but I do have to bribe him to sit on it sometimes too. Today we've had all wees on the potty so far but the poo is going to take much longer to crack..... so I say have a go. It is less messy than I thought it would be but you need to be really organised especially when you go out (don't stay in for a whole week as you will both go mad!)

Prettyfull · 16/06/2006 15:20

Thanks petitfilou lol, your right i will go mad!!!

Im def gona give this ago from monday (as we busy over weekend) i'l still go out but maybe to local park etc I have a pink portable potty now which dd should like!!

I think i will go well (being positive lol) dd hates having nappy on really bad at the moment, so i'l let you all know how it goes.

Iv seen the posts on potty training boot camp, think i might join!!!

Thanks

Poos took longer to crack, in fact 6 months on we are still rinsing one pair of pants a week. There are also some days (when tired or ill) that he completely forgets he no longer wears a nappy for the whole day, wee everywhere.

But I've stopped holding my breath when he sits on the white arm chair...

sorry haven't read all of replies so sorry if repeating!!
My DDis 2.6 and currently potty traing with success, although poos can be hit and miss. However tried at 2yrs as she hated nappies and it was a constant fight to get one changed. However, she clearly did not have bladder control even though she loved the potty and toilet. Are your success' in the past happy coincidences? I'd be inclined to stay in for 3 days and see if she can tell you she needs to go. If not I'd sack the idea and wait 'till she has bladder control.

hi everyone,

just to let u know dd is is doing extremly well. I think i made the right choice to start training her.

No accidents today, she hasnt always told me that she needs to go but if i have been doign washing up or sumthing she has just wondered off and taken herself to the potty for both wee and poo.

IM SO PROUD!!! :)

Im just kinda dreading going out, i dont want to put ehr back in to nappies as i see it as s step backwards (although shes gona still be in nappy for sleep)

What on earth would i do if she wet herself in a shop or sumtihing?? Would feel bad asking sumone else to clean it up!!

Thanks

You will just have to go for it. Smile I have just potty trained DD who is just 2. And luckily we have had nothing disasterous happen. One wee accident at MILs, a couple in the car (but I put a Pampers care mat in the car seat) and that is it.

Bozza · 20/06/2006 15:52

Just make sure you are prepared when you go out and about - you know change of clothes, wipes, nappy bag for soiled clothes etc.
