Was horrible. He was relaxed beforehand (took lovely friend with me, she distracted him with games in the waiting room), we took spongebob plasters to make it better afterwards, he proudly chose kinder egg in the shop before to eat afterwards too and let him bring teddy to hold, and the nurse was lovely, but after having the first one when I had to turn him around to reach the other leg he clung to the chair and screamed and struggled and it took three of us to hold him down :( :( I tried counting to 10 in his ear but I don't think he could even hear me. I feel utterly awful and he was crying so much he was shaking afterwards and drenched in sweat.

Thank god that's the last one until he's a teenager, but it was so traumatic. He's always been like that - you know they tell you to breastfeed through the baby ones? He couldn't even latch on he was so upset poor thing :(

Just wondered if anyone else's DCs react as badly? He was fine 5 minutes later playing with the toy in his kinder egg and was showered with praise and stickers and reassurance and doesn't seem to have any after-effects at all but he kept talking about it all day about how he didn't like it. I wondered if it was me? I tried to keep it low key and explain it would only hurt for a second, it isn't nice but everyone has to have it, even mummy and had it when they were little, and didn't show my distress/nervousness to him (this was the reason for bringing my friend too!) but I wonder if he picks up on it?

Have told DP he is in charge of taking any future children we might have!

Oh you poor thing, that sounds horrific. DS had his mmr early and I'm dreading going for his next imms as he'll remember what it was like.

It does sound like you did everything right. I'd just reinforce how brave he was.

It was traumatic but it was the right thing to do. Being a mummy is awful sometimes.

My DD is 12 and I can still remember vividly having to pin her down alongside 2 nurses when she had her pre-school jabs.

She remembers it too, but is quite matter-of-fact about it; no underlying trauma!
