Dear all,
I'm wondering if there are benefits or problems with submitting my PhD thesis shortly before birth, or keeping it in the drawer for after the baby break?
Some ideas I have but I'm not sure if that's realistic:
- possible benefits before birth:
-->get it over with and concentrate on the baby
-->get unemployment benefits or maternity benefits (???) after submission
- possible benefits of submission after baby break:
-->be be a student longer, enjoy uni benefits (and funding?) for parents
-->have a shorter 'gap' between PhD submission and post-doc applications (some say you should not be more than x months after submission - and I hesitate to claim 'baby break' to get longer period accepted due to fear discrimination)
I'm quite afraid of three things: not finishing the PhD; not finding a post-doc position; not having any money during baby break.
If anyone has any ideas for me I'd love to hear from you. I'm in Cambridge.
