Narrow stairway with round spindles - does a gate exist for this?

We have a stairway that's too narrow for most of the stair gates I've found - 68cm. I bought some Lindam Y- spindles to attach a gate to the newel post, but they say they are only suitable for pressure fit gates, all of which are 75cm+.

Can the Y things fit on a normal wall mounted gate, because there is a narrower one of those, although that needs drilling?

There's no where else we can put the upstairs gate, due to the position of doors etc, unless we go for three gates!

Have you tried Bettacare ones? They do narrow and extra narrow ones, and have Y connectors too.

I had the same issue. We live in a London townhouse with narrow Georgian stairs and round newel posts too. i never found a stairgate to fit, so did without.

To be honest, we had one on the door to our living room/kitchen diner and one on DS's bedroom door. Never really missed one on the stairs because DS was never really out of sight and had enough room to crawl about in the living area. It's better to have the stairgates because the DSs can open doors quite quickly and the stairgates are too complex to open until they're about 12. We went for the Lindam one

We also had the same problem, with a very narrow Victorian staircase and spindles. Have you had a look at Kiddiguard retractable gates? They were the only ones that fit our narrow stair case. They are not cheap new, but you can find them on Ebay for less.

Thanks for those suggestions, it gives me something to go on.

Who knew it was so complicated?

From 62cm wide, we got ours from Toys R Us

The other thing I've seen done is a box built that fits over the bottom 2 or 3 steps making it too high for baby to climb up.
