Hi

How did or does your baby fall asleep?

My LO who is 3 months old is a serious sleepfighter and requires quite vigorous rocking, sometimes up to 30 min and is so cranky and unsettled. It's come to a stage where I dread going out with her as its just so stressful Hmm

Maybe about 20mins I think, until he was in a deeper sleep and then gradually reducing the volume. Some nights we just left it on at a low volume. He was in with us at the time and DH and I were surprised we could sleep through it-but we did. Amazing how your brain can trick you into thinking a detuned radio is the sound of waves crashing on the shore if you're knackered enough Grin

The breakthrough for me was realising that my 4 month old wanted to sleep after 90 mins of being awake in the day. If I darken the room, bounce him on the gym ball with a dummy in his mouth, and maybe also cover his eyes with a dark cloth he is asleep in minutes. If I miss this window it is hell! When out, if I put in his dummy and cover pram with a dark t shirt and walk him for five or ten mins around the 90 min schedule he will also sleep. Worst advice. Ever had as a mum was not to clock watch but look for his sleep signals. Clock watching has helped me to support th routine that he needs.

Bath, bottle, tightly swaddled, laid on side while awake, dummy put in mouth, soft muslin under her head and slightly ruffled to rest against her forehead. If wakes after that, patted and stroked.

DS is almost ten months are for the first five months, it was mostly feeding to sleep in my arms, cuddling, co sleeping, gently putting down in bed, or sleeping in the sling. He'd wake for feeds in the night but would go straight back to sleep. We'd have him downstairs with us of an evening and I'd take him up with me.

Four month sleep regression hurt a little so around five months I started a routine: dinner, bath, in bed for feed with lullaby on - the Tomy Starlight is awesome - cuddle, sing for a bit, white noise lamb on, and he eventually rolls over to sleep. Can take from ten mins to an hour.

DS would only sleep on us (on his tummy) until we worked out swaddling (he had a ridiculous startle reflex).
He was never a good sleeper until he was able to roll himself onto his front. Silent reflux related I think.

Until recently we bounced him to sleep (us doing the bouncing on his head on a shoulder).

Wow I wish I could just have cuddled him to sleep, like some other posters have said they did. Didn't work for us. He would just wriggle and scream if he wasn't moving. Likewise co-sleeping didn't work for us- he wouldn't go to sleep, just thought it was game.

We did cc - he soon learned to get himself back to sleep if there was nothing else bothering him, and we knew from the cry if we'd have to go in. That only works though if he wakes up from a sleep.

Not on his head! With his head on our shoulder!
