I am a nervous first time mother and am considering buying one of those breathing monitors that clip into the nappy. Does anyone have any experience of these?

I had a baby monitor that had a breathing monitor (pad type thing ) that went under the matteress . It was the best thing for me as I had a real fear of cot death and it made me feel so much better knowing that we could see the monitor and know he was breathing . They have these in police cells for drunk people .

I think that you have to consider that for some people these monitors can increase anxiety as at times they may go off for reasons other than baby having a problem breathing, eg disconnecting, not picking up properly, baby moving around etc. So you may get anxiety provoking false alarms. I'm not aware that there is any evidence that these things prevent cot death but some mums do find them reassuring so really it depends on how you feel.

i know that for me, it would turn me into a quivering heap of worry if it ever had a false alarm, I don't think I would ever stop thinking about whetherthe baby is breathing but if you think it'l be good for you then go for it Smile
