Any advice on potty training when out and about?

Hi there, my little girl aged 25 months is doing really well at home on the potty, if she's just wearing a skirt or no clothes. But as soon as I put knickers on her with leggins, especially for going out, she forgets and has accidents. It keeps happening so I am going back to nappies for the convenience although this probably isn't helping the situation. I tried talking to her about knickers being for big girls and that she needs to pull them down, but so far she still seems to think they are nappies (btw she calls them nappies too). Any tips? Are pull ups a good step? How long did it take you to potty train going out n about? Thanks.

I set a timer and put DD1 on the potty every 1.5 hours (which was about how often she peed). I put her on potty before we went out and when we got home. Also I carried a potty with me for a couple of weeks.

I need to start with DD2 - been putting it off!

we used pull ups for things like soft play visits as I don't think its fair to get wee or worse on the equipment. A towel or disposable bedwetting mats went under the bum on shopping trolly seats or cafe chairs, also ont the car seat or else you have to wash the cover every time. You could also shell out for the training knickers which are towelling so look like proper knickers but have a waterproof layer. They are not 100% but will save a major puddle and might "fool" your daughter. DS took a year to train so I am not an expert but DD is getting on a bit better at a much younger age (26m).

Answer is to not go out and about when potty training if at all possible!

If you do have to - take potty - or we had a little toilet seat that fits on a toilet - much easier than potties. Frequent visits to the toilet with much praise and reward for wees in the right place, and fingers crossed at all times!
Good luck!

Found pull ups waste of money, they are just fooled into thinking they are nappies. However sensible in early days for a long car journey maybe but best avoided. I just put pants on DS and carried on as normal with lots of spares packed for those accidents. I also carried the potty with me to a few places! Your DD is still very young, you could leave it a few months perhaps? My friends' DDs trained around 2.5 whereas boys tend to be a bit later. Good luck

Potette is a really useful thing to have - it's a tiny portable potty with an absorbent liner. We are training DS this week and have been taking him out and about with it. (We had to stop the car on the way home and sit him on it in the back seat, but that was fine; he didn't wet himself, we didn't have a wet car seat, all was well, and because the liner is like a disposable nappy you have the equivalent of a nappy sack to dispose of rather than a bag full of wee.)
