Having ago at the potty training and have the inevitable wee on the carpet. We rent and I am worried about the smell. What advice?

Bicarbonate of soda? Dd weed on the carpet during nappy off time & I just sprayed diluted washing up liquid on it & blotted with kitchen paper - no smell. Tbh we do have a polypropylene carpet which doesn't absorb liquid very easily so that might have helped.

Just hire a rug doctor every now & again if you're worried about smells

I make a paste out of bicarbonate if soda and white vinegar, I dab it on the wee and the smell wont linger.

You can get carpet spray from pet shops for dog wee- a much more evil substance than baby wee. Just spray it on and it gets rid of all smells

(A few new puppy accidents only here- don't want anyone thinking we just let the dog wee on the floor!)

I rent too and this has been the best IME.

Have a stash of old towels or rags to hand, preferably in a pale colour (baby muslins are perfect!). Whenever there is a spill, first use the towel as soon as possible to soak up as much as possible. Put pressure on it!

Then you want a carpet spray - 1001 troubleshooter is good but I'm sure you can get other makes too. Spray it on, work in with some kind of scrubbing brush (useful to have a spare one for the purpose) and leave for the set amount of time. Then get your cloth, or another clean one if it's wet, fold and press down on the stain to soak it up. Really put a lot of pressure on - stand on it for example. Pull it up and look at the colour Grin

If the stain is still wet then keep putting dry parts of the cloth on to soak it up. Once dry if it's still making dirty stains on the cloth, re-spray and soak up again. Eventually it should come out clean, unless your carpet is old and wasn't that clean to begin with.

Doesn't the vinegar and baking soda end up bleaching the carpet?

(that was for greenj1)
