Should 7 month old DS be in a car seat on a coach?

Not sure where the best place to post this is...

Going on a one hour coach trip with DS1+2 on Friday. DS2 is only 7 months - does he need to be in a car seat? Or rather, should he be, in order to be as safe as possible?

Can't seem to find any relevant info on google.

I tried to find out if the coach has lap belts or three point belts but the organisers are not sure.

TIA

it's not compulsory. Took me 30 secs on google to find recommendations from National Express and others.

coaches are far safer than cars which is probably why it isn't compulsory. But if you've got the seat, why not?

Thanks. Sorry I don't think my op was clear. I know its not compulsory but I'm worried about the safety aspect of him just sitting on my knee.

My sister hired a coach with seatbelts for her wedding last year and we used our maxi cosi for our 11month old son. Personally I wouldn't have it any other way, as if the baby was on your knee and you were thrown forward, it doesn't bear thinking about. (only my opinion obviously, not judging at all)

I would definitely take a car seat, in fact for ds1's nursery trip last year I drove with ds1 (3.5y) and ds2 (4mo) and followed the coach because I didn't think I could manage with 2 car seats on the coach and didn't want pfb ds1 on the coach without one Blush Grin.

Coaches may be generally safer however if they have an accident they are often nasty - eg coach rolls over and personally I couldn't risk that without the dc properly restrained.
