Best bibs for messy eaters?

DD has just started weaning and is enjoying smearing herself with food. With DS we just used plastic backed bibs but she just finds them too distracting and pulls at them or stuffs it in her mouth! I bough plastic ones with sleeves from Asda but they totally swamp her and again provide too much of a distraction. They will be getting a lot of use and washed regularly so am happy to shell out for ones that last or get cheap ones that need to be replaced regularly. Thanks.

I found these to be excellent - bung in washing machine - easy to wipe - last brilliantly..

The bit to catch food is a bit too low - so I have been known to double up with these as well - these catch food spills really well - and are fun to the wearer - hard to remove - easy to clean

Am aware this is a pretty full on and £££ solution but works for me! Smile

Thanks for the links. Are the bibbettes okay for a 6 month old would you say? Just the photos are of much bigger children and DD is quite petite. I take it they're nice and soft? The cheap ones I got weren't and they just scrunched up and created all manner of folds and sticky out bits for her to play with Shock

We used sillybillyz messy eater bibs from 6 months with the sleeves rolled up a wee bit - they cover the arms and legs (when seated). Last really well and were still fitting fine when the dc didn't need them any more.

My Internet is too slow to open or create links ATM so you'll have too google - sorry.

Ah, now working better here for reviews - plenty of other colours (and better prices) to be had elsewhere.

Great. Thanks!

Yes DD started in the Bibetta ones at 6 months - though it might be good to see if you can try to buy one in a store so you can see it first - as the last one I ordered did seem bigger than the old ones - though that was a bonus for me as DD grown !

I got a scoop bib.....biggest waist of money. He tips it up, picks food out and drops it or turns his head when I feed him so it misses the bib altogether. I give up Confused

Another vote for Silly Billyz (several types/sizes available). The ones with arms are totally bombproof and the littler ones are great for less messy mealtimes/snacks.

I used ikea apron bibs with tommee tippee pelican bibs over the top.

I ended up having a food tshirt that i put over DS's normal top when he was eating because he would take his bib off even the ones that tie on didn't last long because he would have strangle himself trying to get it off so i had to take it off anyway.

I also used vanish with ever wash to get rid of the many stains even his socks got covered in food and i give him his breakfast with just his nappy on if he's having egg or cereal he's a very messy boy :(

I do exactly the same as mini breadstick (same brands as well! Spooky)

AppleYumYum · 29/07/2013 13:52

I tried many for my super messy ds and ended up with two of these, one in the wash and one to wear, they go in up to 40 degrees and dry very quickly, they are great! Nice tight elastic around the wrists and very long so food gathers at the bottom and you just collect it up at the end. It's very soft so doesn't hamper their movement or get in their way like some I have had. Plus can use for art and crafts too.

We used the 'over the head' towelling bibs from Sainsbury's. cheap No fastenings to undo and you can use them to wipe faces and hands after. You then bung them in the washing machine.

Thanks. I find terry ones get really sodden as she dribbles as much as she swallows but find a lot of the plastic backed ones too rigid or large. Will try some of those from amazon Thanks
