Just that really, looking for inspiration. DS is getting increasingly fussy despite prev eating everything sight. I think I'm in a bit of a food rut for him

  • pesto & pasta
  • waffles/fish fingers etc
  • rice & beans, sweetcorn on cobs
Beans on toast

He is in full time CM and apparently eats everything there so I think he is getting veg and meat whatever and that he is just playing up for me.

I find the long I spend preparing something the less likely he will eat it - which has put me off continuing to make him things.

Dear lord that sounds like a bounteous feast compared to what mine eats!

He started off great, weaning was dead easy, eat everything in sight, loved veg etc. fast forward to now and he lives pretty much solely on crackers, humus and breadsticks Hmm

In fact I could easily list all the foods he will eat, would take about 20 seconds.

I find that if I try to "cajole" ds into eating then he won't. If I just plonk it in front if him and leave him to it then he'll eat it better. If he doesn't eat it, I try not to make a fuss and just take it away, but I always say, "Dinner in the bin, no pudding," and that's that. I don't offer alternatives and don't give him anything else until the next meal. He eats most things without fuss.

If he refuses something, or says they're yucky, I just take it away but offer it again another day. Sometimes he's just not in the 'mood' for some foods.

I also find he's more willing to try something new if I eat it too, and if he sees the baby eat and enjoy it.

He's 27 months by the way, and never really been a fussy eater. I do realise he might just be an easy toddler and that I might get my comeuppance when dd gets older...

Ds is 21 months today - he lives on fruit and milk...but always finds room for cake if that's ever around! In the nicest way, I'm really pleased he's not the only one Grin

Although he did eat 3 slices of jam toast this morning - might start putting jam in his bolognese to see if that works!

I'm sure I'm going to be flamed for saying this but we have discovered the joys of youtube on the ipad for DS (23 months). He just wouldn't sit still long enough to eat anything and quite often refused food. Now even if he initially says no to the food I put teletubbies or nursery rhymes on and the food he just refused goes in happily whilst he is distracted. I'm probably setting him up for a lifetime of mindless eating but it was becoming such a nightmare.

The other thing I use (just to add to the list of my shocking parenting) is M&S ready meals for kids. He loves most of them an awful lot more than anything I have ever made for him and I just got so depressed throwing my lovingly handmade food in the bed so again ...screw it.

LouBeee · 27/07/2013 21:35

Bin obviously. I do not throw my leftover food in the bed to be clear.

My 22 mo DD doesn't eat veg. At all. Potatoes, meat meat and more meat...any meat at all, all fruit, cereal and thats about it.

She has an extremely sweet tooth too for which I blame her Nana my DM. Grin

Very frustrating!

I have 21 month old twins. They both get given the same but have different tastes: DTD will eat any type of meat, loves chicken most, DTS is more of a carb lover and loves eggs too. They are pretty good with most things but will not eat fruit unless its in a smoothie.
Usual favourites for dinner include pasta with either pesto+chicken, cheese sauce or bolognese sauce (or lasagne) risotto (spinach and mushroom, or chicken); lentil Dahl with fish or lamb; homemade chicken nuggets and chips, fish fingers and chips, couscous with ratatouille; fish pie; smoked haddock chowder. They basically eat the same as us with the odd exception. Lunch is usually some kind of sandwich (cheese, ham, tuna, egg mayo) or scrambled eggs/omelette or cheese on toast etc.

My DD is 2 in 2 weeks. She was baby lead weaned and has gone from being a fab eater with a big appetite to a fairly good eater with a smaller appetite and is snack obsessed! Compared to my DS at this age she is brilliant - he had a repertoire of about 5 foods - agh! Anyway things she enjoys are:

Eggs - boiled/fried or an omelette with whatever veggies cooked into it.
Piece of white fish, fried in butter for 5 mins or so with rice and veggies.
Salmon or prawns and noodles with stir fry veggies, stir fried in garlic, honey and soy sauce.
Fajitas - non spicy
Chicken cooked in a casserole.
Minute steak cooked fairly rare with sweet potatoes and veggies.
Veggie burgers and wedges
Baked potato and baked beans
Fish cakes
Spaghetti, peas, creme freche and pesto
Risotto made with whatever veggies in fridge
Sausages

Hope that helps! xx

boredwith I'll come round for dinner, never mind ds!

Ds is 22mo and is getting pickier and fussier. He was BLW but now loves to be spoon fed I think he feels deprived of that stage! and also eats like a snake - every three days!

He likes:
Eggs: omelette or scrambled on toast
Peppa pig pasta shapes
Baked potato and cheese
Macaroni cheese
Pasta pasta and more bloody pasta
Apples, grapes, cherries
All cereals except the healthy ones
Crisps of any kind
Salami, sausages
Spaghetti bolognese
Fromage frais
Homemade sausages or meatballs
Fried onions! Discovered this today
Pizza
Plain dry bread
Chocolate, biscuits and cake - as much as he's allowed :)

Mine little chap is just 20 months and we are making an effort to give him for dinner the same as we had the previous night. Main issue is that we don't get to scrape the bowl clean as he have to leave him a bit.

It also means we are being a bit more conscious of what we eat. he loves a curry so we had 4 of them last week.
