Behaviour with grandparents..??

Hi everyone
Does anyone else find that their child's behaviour deteriorates when the grandparents are around? My little boy (18 months) is pretty good at home most of the time, but I've noticed if he is over at my parents' place he seems to act up a lot more - just generally more whiny and complaining if he can't get his own way. Maybe they let him get away with more than I do. I don't have a lot of trouble with him at home so I'm not sure where it springs from. Has anyone else experienced this?

My son's always been the opposite - a monster when he's at home with me and an angel when he goes to grandparents (both sets) or they visit here.

Yes, LiamsMum. We had a nerve-shredding visit to my parents (elderly, well-meaning, doting but rather eccentric and deaf) which everyone had REALLY looked forward to beforehand and ds was a complete monster the entire week. He yelled "No" at my father a great deal, he whined, he barely ate and he kept moving small items of furniture into their paths. They said they really enjoyed having us but my father practically threw us out of the car at Penrith station and went screeching off into the sunset. You are not alone.
He is very good with my mother in law but that is because I told him she eats small children

LOL Marina at the eating small children bit. I must remember that when ds is a bit older.

We all went out to dinner for my FIL 65th birthday. It was over an hour before the starters came, by which time I had de-camped to the playground with my 3. So I ALWAYS take toys (saved from christmas excess) wherever we go!!!
And if staying some-where, I borrow a new video from the library.
AS we don't see grand parents that often (my mum once a year), the kids get very excited, and that's why they won't go to bed... get tired ..whinny...start arguments etc etc

Rather than stay atmy mums, we hire a cottage nearby. Then we can see her, and leave her to peace and quiet in the evenings. Plus she doesn't get the early mornings

Hi Louiseindevon
Toys are NOT the problem!! lol. At my parents' place he has toys, videos, you name it - I just think that he knows he is in a different environment and that his grandparents try to do everything to make him happy. He just seems to get a lot more demanding than he does with me at home!! Kids - they are extremely clever little beings.
PS. I also take toys to restaurants, which only work for a very short time. Gets bored with them quickly.
