I have a bjorn, which dh picked out to use for dd.He used it all of once, and then I used ot a handful of times. I found it cumbersome and hot and never thoufmght dd was comfy looking in it.

I am now pg with nunber two and dd will be 2.3 when this one arrives. The buggy we have is a birth to 4+ one so I fully intend to keep it and not succumb to a double. Therefore I think a really good sling will come in handy.

I tried a one at a friends that was like a loooooong cloth that tied multiple times and ended woth a tie under babys bum and I didnt feel right with that one (no idea of the name sorry). What do you have and what are the pluses/negatives?

So how does the Ergoetc differ to a Bjorn - they look veryvery similar.

The ergo keeps going the baby in a seated position with the legs spread wide in the natural M position unlike the bjorn which supports from the crotch. It is much more comfortable for you as the position doesn't pull your centre of gravity forwards and for the baby it is like sitting in a hammock rather than dangling from a parachute harness. A soft syructured carrier is so much more comfortable to use than a bjorn and will last longer but unfortunately the big baby shops don't stock them.

My vote is for the manduca, we love ours and so does dd ( now nearly 6m) it is similar to an ergo but you can cross the straps over your back which helps to distribute the weight even better. In answer to a pp, compared to a baby bjorn the weight is distributed your hips as well, as it has a wide passed hip strap, think the type of hip belt on ginormous rucksack type thing! We tried a mei tai first but the long straps were a bit of a pain, esp when I was tying outside as they dangled down and it soggy. I would second going to a sling meet though if you can, I hired the manduca first for a month to make sure I liked it. We got ours from kiddicare (I think the only 'big' store to sell them, as it was the most reasonable at the time

I've read Ergos aren't great for tinies but fab once the baby gets older. They don't allow for forward facing though.

from my research the Beco Gemini looked awesome - all the plus points of an ergo and the baby can forward face too

oh and dd didn't like my close caboo - annoyingly as she was a baby who only slept when being held, I thought a stretchy sling was going to be the answer but dd thought not!

I think you're thinking of the Kari-me sling, they are a faff at first but were a life saver for me suffering with a bad back as they distributed the weight evenly. And they come in lovely colours

Just thought I'd add another soft structured carrier! We have a Tula carrier. Very comfy, easy to use and looks pretty too! I'm not too sure how good it is for newborns though (I agree a stretchy wrap is good for newborn snuggles)! I also have a woven wrap, but my husband definitely finds the Tula less hassle, so we like having both!

I have a 26 mo dd and dc2 due in 3 weeks. I have been recommended the Kari-Me. I bought one and though obviously not in use just yet I know it will be useful from the start. We have a Baby Bjorn but you cannot use it from newborn and I figure I'll need some free hands with the toddler!
