Newborn wind advice

Thirstysomething · 25/07/2013 15:24

Hello, is there a newborn forum anywhere?
Can't find one, so:
Please can anyone help me with some winding advice? I am on baby no 4, so should really know this, but I am finding ds really hard to wind.
And then he keeps us up all night crying with tummy pain poor darling (and poor us!)
Any tips??
Thank you thank you

We had a good night last night ... Is it true that colic is regular I.e. he would have been screaming all last night too if it was colic and w had changed nothing but formula ...

Back on the other brand and seems much happier today

Thirstysomething · 29/07/2013 09:22

Ps, I had my facts slightly wrong on the lactose/lactase thing - I think lactase is actually the enzyme! Anyway...!

Hi, was last night any better as well?

Yeh last night was a good one too. He is windy but if he is winded and is in the original formula ... Seems like it sorts him out.

Does that mean a no to colic and just him suffering from trapped wind do you think?

thirty how are you getting on?

goodjambadjar · 29/07/2013 11:12

Yeah, it could be a combination of the formula change and better daytime winding. Plus you'll be better prepared if the colic does hit! I'm glad it's seems to be working for you. x

Last night was great but he is not sleeping tonight! I am typing this hunched over the crib, my cheek painfully resting on the edge because my whole arm is in there so he can suck on my little finger!

I might get flamed, but a dummy could be your friend here. we went without until the colic hit, then we used it. She is 22mths but I took it off of her just after her first birthday and she doesn't miss it.

lockie1983 · 30/07/2013 07:52

I am with good here. Was against using dummies too, but my bean is a really sucky baby and what with all the wind he gets hiccups too ... The dummy sorts out the hiccups and really calms him.

He doesn't have it every night, just when he wants to suck our fingers ! If he wakes up every ten minutes I just pop it in and after about half an hour he is sleeping soundly ... Normally having spat the thing out.

We gave infacol last night, bringing up the wind a treat and he seems much less hassled (so far).

Keep us posted x

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 30/07/2013 08:33

Have you tried sitting them upright after feeds? My 4 week old was like this, he's now on sma comfort and I try to keep him upright for a bit and he's much better now, he wouldn't have infacol he just spat it out or clamped his mouth shut so the hv gave us a prescription for sma comfort. He has a dummy too which helps settle him.

goodjambadjar · 30/07/2013 10:01

glad I'm not the only dummy user! It was only for soothing, I t wasn't a permanent fixture and I waited til she had a really

goodjambadjar · 30/07/2013 10:03

Oops, a really bad cold so she couldn't suck anyway, she was too bunged up. So no dummy for a week, I hid them and by the time she got over her cold she didn't miss them. And she used them to sleep, then spat them out.

Thirstysomething · 30/07/2013 11:08

I can't get him to take a funny - I was wondering if he was too small?

Dummy!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 30/07/2013 11:10

My ds had his from about a week, what dummies have you tried? My ds will only have the tommee tippee ones as they're a lot smaller than the others, he doesn't really have it to grt to sleep just in between sometimes. All 3 of my ds' have had them and the first two got rid if them fine.

goodjambadjar · 30/07/2013 11:18

possibly. I seem to remember having new born ones, possibly avent?

Thirstysomething · 30/07/2013 11:19

Off to supermarket, so will try to find the TT ones, thanks for the tip!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 30/07/2013 11:42

The avent and mam ones seemed huge but my ds is tiny, if tesco don't have them boots definitely sell them.

lockie1983 · 30/07/2013 12:17

TT one here too! He hasn't quite got the hang of it, he will spit or pull it out and then cry for it! I just pop it back in his mouth ... He is sort of getting it now Smile

good the thing I have learned very, very quickly is that you need to constantly adjust your opinions in this parenting lark ! He is just using it for soothing too - he is happy, then so am I.

goodjambadjar · 30/07/2013 13:42

lockie, I know what you mean!

I'm not using dummies! (dummy was a godsend)
I'm going to breast feed (not if baby won't latch you're not!)
I'm only going to put her in Clark's shoes (not if you want to stay on budget, and the supermarket ones can be very pretty!)

lockie1983 · 30/07/2013 14:43

I think we might be the same person !! Though ... Not sure if he'll appreciate the pretty shoes quite as much as I will.

Best add: not going to gender stereotype (boy-bean rocking a blue wardrobe...)

goodjambadjar · 30/07/2013 14:52

DDs room is pinker than Barbie's fanjo! I love it!

TOmmee Tippee 0-3 months dummies are much smaller - thanks for the tip! He still isn't sure about them, but am persevering - it would be a godsend! Xxx

OP posts:
lockie1983 · 31/07/2013 15:12

It'll take him a little while to get the hang of it (got my little dude in the crook of my arm dozing and happily sucking away right now ... But every now and then he changes him mind and spits it out)

How is the wind situation?

goodjambadjar · 02/08/2013 14:30
