i am to begin a primary pgce full time this sept, my ds will be one yr. most of the time i think i will manage - have good family support and did degree working long hours - paid employment so know how to juggle.
but i receive so much negative response when i tell both friends/strangers/ other student teachers my plans that it makes me insecure.
can i do it?
any stories of struggles/tips/advice etc please

in need of reassurance!!!!!

I went into teaching as a more mature student. It is the best job I have even had.

Make sure you structure your time....and when you get to the end....stop! Don't get suckered into the 'Just one more thing', thing!

i am also a mature student and know that i definitely want to teach - i am just worried about missing out on time with my ds and not acheiving as well as i hope. its that juggling thing.
i already do that - just one more thing... and one more... guess i have 3 months before i start my course to knock it on the head. cheers!

i'm a bit rubbish at sticking to a bed time - blame the internet - maybe i should set myself a bed time alarm.

thanks

I wasnt thinking of mumsnetting, more like doing school work until well in to the early hours!

i was a mature student though not with children though i am at the moment doing an ou course with a toddler and a 3 month old. I think you are doing a good thing. You may find that although the course is fulltime you are not in uni everyday all day.(wed pm are usually designated sports) good luck and enjoy it.

I did PGCE when dd was 8 months old. Was Mrs Organised (then haha not now) and got through it. Struggled financially at the time and dh worked away for 3 months of it BUT I so wanted to do it, and that was my motivation. What helped me was the group that I was in- people in similar cicumstances and we helped each other rather than competing. If we found a reference we shared it, a lot of photocopying being shared rather than squirrelling it away. I did work a lot of long hours, especially when assignments were due. So please be positive and give yourself confidence because the main thing is that you want to do it- and it's only a year! Ps I was one of the top students in my year amazingly as were 2 of my friends.
