Do Siblings Play Together for a long Time?

I hear they play together for very long i.e. hours? Is this true? If so; how long do your DCs play together? Do your have to intervene during their play? At what ages did they begin to play together? How do you referee the inevitable fights? Is it a real joy to watch your children play and learn together?

Mine do...started when they were about 1 and 3.

They are 3 and 5 now. Some days they can play together happily for hours - others they are squabbling within 5 minutes.

Yep, I have to referee them ALL THE TIME.

My two boys do, they are currently 9 & 7 and spend almost all their time at home together without very little conflict. Dd is 2 and happy to play on her own for now.

Mine all play together, sometime squabble but most of the time they

Play together

MyBoysAreFab · 21/07/2013 20:06

My two DS' used to play together all the time. Now they are 12 and 14 and do nothing but wind each other up, fight and argue.. and they said it gets easier as they get older!

littlecrystal · 21/07/2013 20:07

Mine are two boys 5 and 2.5 years old and they play together almost all time. The 5 year old NEEDS a company and the 2.5 year old would happily play on his own, it is just that he cannot as the brother constantly bosses him around!

Chopsypie · 21/07/2013 20:15

Not yet. Mine are 19mo and 3 and they just fight!

BeaWheesht · 21/07/2013 20:22

Mine do a bit, especially outside / on days out / on holiday. Ds is 6 and dd is nearly 3. When at home they do 'shows' together and play dressing up, cars etc and sometimes kill each other.

I love seeing them together, best thing ever.

Mine are like that little crystal sometimes it seems as if the younger two take it in turns to occupy their older sister! Now they are a bit older (8, 6, nearly 4) they can play all morning on some imaginary game, or they might argue within 2 min. If they are playing happily I don't intervene.

QueenofKelsingra · 23/07/2013 08:43

My DSs play together a lot (3yo and 1yo), its all fine until DS1 forgets how much smaller than him DS2 is!!

DD1 (DS2's twin) usually plays by herself but will play with DS2 if DS1 isn't here. She generally sits and watches her brothers with a look of distain!

I try not to interfere unless there is full on screaming going on, especially if its DD1 shrieking - she's a bit of a drama queen!!

Mine are one and three. They play together but need supervision, they don't fight but they do stupid stuff like pile cushions on the others head because they're so young.
I had loads of siblings and two very close to my age. My older siblings fought constantly with each other and never played together. Me and my other two siblings (we were the younger ones) would play for hours and mean literally from waking up to going to bed, we rarely fought and if we did we sorted it ourselves. Parents didn't intervene at all. My sister was and still is my best friend and we'd spend every waking hour together.

BigDomsWife · 23/07/2013 11:09

Love the answers. My 2 are starting to play together but need my supervision as they are so young. I must say watching them play is amazing, something I never got to do before DDs baby brother was born. DD relied on me for entertainment all hours so its lovely to sit back and watch, even if its only a few minutes.
