Hi

Im currently expecting first baby and starting to get my head around the confusing world of pushchairs.

I love the idea of one that can be reversed so parent or outward facing but DH suspects its unnecessary as DC would want to face out once theyre old enough to be out of the carrycot.

the big difference between 2 pushchairs we like is 1 has it and 1 doesnt.

so please tell me your experiences, do you use/would you use or want this feature and what age is it useful for?

DS was parent facing until he spent a short spell in a forward facing buggy then cried because he wanted to see things Hmm He was semi-upright from just 3m on paed advice and I would have hated not being able to see him!

I used to have him face me sometimes and switching was easy if the sun was in his face whichever way. Now I've got a bee it's annoying to switch but he's turned into a sun worshiper

Dd1 and dd2 were parent facing until 4-5 months. Dd3 was front facing from birth.

I think it depends on the baby, my dd screamed non stop when she was in her carry cot or rear facing. It was a revelation when I put her forward facing (at around 4-5 months) and she suddenly enjoyed being in the pram. I wish I'd done it earlier but I was scared off by the speech development advice (she chatters non-stop now so I don't think I need have worried).

I put a few blankets etc in the pram to prop her up and keep her a bit more stable in the pram when she was younger.

We have a Bugaboo Bee, which we bought because it was usable from birth (reclined flat with a baby cocoon) and for its lightness for humping on and off public transport and up the steps to our London flat. Didnt ever have a carrycot. It has a reversible seat, and we kept it parent-facing till our son was about ten months, so we could chat out and about. Around then, he got more interested in his environment, so we put him forward-facing. When borrowing a forward-facing buggy on a trip abroad before ten months, he found it quite upsetting, as he wanted to see us.

All babies are different, obviously, but tbh, I would not buy a pushchair without it being reversible, as not having the option could make life with your baby necessarily difficult.

We're getting a mothercare xpedior, it hasn't arrived yet but it has amazing reviews, is easily reversible and a bargain! Loved it in the shop and cant wait to get it Smile

My dd is 23 months - We have the quinny zapp xtra and still use it parent facing most of the time. I find she interacts with me more this way. To be honest she doesn't seem fussed which way she faces but definitely more chatty, points out more things to me when she's facing me. Plus I'm not ready to give up staring at that beautiful little face!! If you can afford it get a buggy/pram that gives you the choice.

I only had forward facing pushchairs, both mine fell asleep within minutes of going in it (one would only nap in the pushchair) so even if they had been parent facing they wouldn't have been chatted to. I certainly don't consider it essential but if you can afford one it's nice to have the option. Your baby may not fall asleep within minutes and may like to parent face.

We have a Mutsy 4Rider (brilliant!), the pram obviously faced inwards and the vast majority of time I had DD in the rf mode as I liked seeing her. That said I think it depends on the baby. Around 8/9 months she started to hang forward looking around the sides and get heavy for me to push.

At 9mo we bought a ff Cossarto as we were going to Paris (its a lot smaller and lighter) and primarily use this - she loves it, sleeps well in it and is very chatty unless she has her dummy in!

I have a two way pushchair and also a cheapo stroller that only forward faces.i much prefer parent facing and i think it does encourage you to talk to your child more. My son is 15 months and is happy to parent face most of the time.
