What's the one thing that you DID have as a child that your child won't have?

Not sure if anyone has done this? In response to the other thread...

I think it's sad my DS won't have the freedom I had, as in we lived in the country and I was out and about exploring a lot of the time. I also had siblings which he won't have and so that meant we were able to travel in a pack and always had companions.

Living on the beach - like, back door opening up onto the sand, run outside to rock pools after homework done kind of thing.

Going to school in another language and turning out bilingual (although I suppose this could still happen).

Any cousins, unless my DBro gets a move on.

SAHM - can't see how we'd ever afford to live off one wage.

A house with land in the country - way out of our budget these days.

Horses - without the above mentioned land, keeping horses is unfeasible.

Going on holiday in term time!

Relationship with aunt and uncle - we used to go on holidays etc with my mums sister and her family. My sister doesn't bother with anyone.

Both grandmothers Hmm

An indifferent mother.

Private education. Never say never, but I don't think it did me any good at all.

The wooden spoon.

My mum used a wooden spoon to spank us with if we were especially naughty. It wasn't a daily occurance by any means, nor even a weekly/monthly one...but yes, when she was particularly aggrieved she would make us stand in front of her and get a right stinger.

In all honestly, my mum was loving, supportive and committed as a mother, and we never felt afraid of her. It's like people often say....never did me any harm.

Still though, I'd never consider doing the same to my own kids.

A horse - despite my wanting one for them. Just not interested.

A SAHM - could afford for me to be one, but as much as I love my kids the thought horrifies me. I work 4 days a week which is just right for us.

A dad who isn't around much due to work. DH is self employed and works from home so sees loads of the kids and hopefully always will.

A mum who can cook. I can bake, and love doing it, but I sure can't cook. Luckily DH is a fab cook.

A house which is always clean and tidy.

A horse! I just don't think I can be as magnanimous as my mum and get up at 5.30am on a Sunday morning to get ready for events. Sorry dd Grin
