When at home, 9 month old ds has 4*7 oz bottles during the day, at the following times

8am
11am
3pm
7pm (bedtime)

DS has just started nursery, and today was his proper full day. He has had a total of 4 Oz's from 7:30 am till 4:30. (He did eat lots of solids though)

The staff didn't seem all that concerned, and I stupidly didn't ask if he had had water. When I got him home, I offered him a bottle, and he downed a 6oz all in one go, so he was obviously thirsty.

I'm just a bit worried as I know they are supposed to have 20oz in a day, and there is no way he will reach that if this continues.

I'm going to give him as much of his morning bottle here as I can before I drop him off at 7:30 tomorrow, so at least he has a good start.

I would mention it to them tomorrow and see what they say.

If this was his first day then it may just be a period of settling in. It will take a while for him to hit a routine and he may well be different at nursery. Also it's been pretty hot, so he may well have been drinking lots of water which reduced his milk intake.

Just keep the lines of communication open with the staff and don't be afraid to call up during the day to check on him. I did that a few times in the first weeks and the staff didn't seem to mind.

I'll have a word at drop off. As well as the 6oz, I also made up a 4oz, as he still seemed hungry, and downed that as well Smile

My DD and DS both refused to take bottles from staff at nursery for some reason. They/we tried everything, different milk temperatures, different locations for feeding, different staff trying to feed, bringing in their bottles from home etc but they just refused. By 9months they had pretty much dropped daytime bottles, with the morning and pre-bed bottles the only ones that remained (ignoring the mid night bottles that my son insisted on for much longer - but that's a different issue!). Both my DC's thrived and now eat well, drink loads of water and are happy, healthy, well developed kids who clearly didn't suffer. So while I agree with the sentiment of discussing with the staff, if it continues please don't worry.

Mine were both breast fed but went to nursery at 9 months - and neither drank much milk. Both ate a lot of solid food, and drank enough water, but even my less fussy child only takes 120ml of milk during the day. The nursery nurses always said that it was on the low side of normal, but none of us were ever worried as long as they ate plenty of food. In a couple of months, it would be totally normal to have milk only morning and evening - I think of babies like ours as just a little ahead of the curve! Wink

Thank you pip and fluffy He apparently had lots of water yesterday, so at least he had some fluids. I'm relieved to know others have gone through it. I'm calling them at 1 to see how he is, so fingers crossed a better day. I did give him his morning bottle before we left this morning, so I know he had at least 7oz Grin
