A question for parents living in houses....

Hi all,

This is going to be a silly thread... Feeling a bit stupid typing this... But can people living in houses tell me a bit about how your DC's stuff is arranged ??

I've just moved in from a flat to a house. In our previous flat everything was obviously on 1 level and the room DS played in also contained his chest of drawers and his changing unit... Which was basically our living room.

Now we have loads of extra space and I have no idea how to use it Blush !! DS will have his bedroom upstairs and we also have a spare room downstairs where I intend to keep all his toys...So we'll finally have a living room which isn't scattered with toys. :)
Buy where do I keep DS's chest of drawers?? In his bedroom or the play room ? What

Obviously in his bedroom. Where do you keep your own chest of drawers?

How old is your ds? Makes all the difference, imo. My two hardly have anything downstaires anymore except art/craty stuff

DS's chest of drawers is in his bedroom because we keep his clothes in there.

We usually change his nappy downstairs, but have a spare changing mat in the corner of his bedroom in case he needs changing after he's been taken upstairs for the night.

I'm presuming he's still quite little, as you are talking about changing units ?

Chest of drawers I would read as "clothes storage" so in his bedroom upstairs.
If you have 2 living rooms downstairs, it's a nice idea to have a calm adult room and one where all his paraphanelia is - you just need to get some shelving or some stacking storage boxes or something to keep all his stuff in. As they get older, more of their toys live in their rooms, but when they are little, it tends to be downstairs.
We've always changed all ours in the bathroom, so changing mat on the floor, and nappy / wipes / sacks / etc lived in there but we have a big bathroom. In previous house it was all in his bedroom.

Its only a silly question in terms of there being no particular answer.
Put everything in the place you want it to be/ most useful for your needs.
I had changing unit upstairs but mat downstairs, so half of what you need upstairs and half down, then you aren't running about all day.

I've never contemplated having clothes storage anywhere but in bedrooms tbh.

My DS has a tiny box room bedroom & he has his cot, drawers & wardrobe with clothes in, cot top changer & a net strung up with his cuddly toys in. Then his other toys that he gets out during the day are in what was the study, now basically a baby stuff storage room, though we bring them into the living room to play. I realise how lucky we are to have that room though, as it means when he's gone to bed, the toys go away so we're not constantly tripping over them.

we have a house and 6 kids.
there are clothes, toys and books everywhere. even in the garden

right now the pushchair is in the living room, the ironing board is in the dining room, and I've found a welly in the bath.

I have no wise words for you, but good luck!Smile

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies and for thinking that my question was stupid :)

ZingWidge... Grin for welly in bath

So ... I've kept the chest of drawers in DS's bedroom... Just have to remember to keep extra muslins downstairs so I don't have to keep running up.
Have kept the changing unit down for now.. DS is 9 mo so doesn't actually go om the unit... But I use the unit tostore all his cloth nappies.

MTC keeping a box of changing stuff up and down sounds handy...

Thanks again :)
