Hi All,
Sorry I didn't know where to post it...thought parenting should be general one.
From Setember we are moving from Spain to London, my husband job is going to be near to Gatwick. As his intention is to commute by car & train, we are looking for an area where to stay that will be good for the three of us. We've got a 16months old baby & I am interested to interact with young families.
We were considering the following places:

  • Richmond & surrondings (St Margaret, Twickenham...)
  • Kingston
  • Wimbledon
May I have your opinions?

Nearly all of those are lovely areas for families but £££.

Also still a bit of a way from Gatwick, closer to Heathrow.

We moved to Wimbledon when my dh started working in Crawley near goat wick. Was a 1 nourish drive.
Houses are expensive and schooling very difficult in all the areas you mentioned.

Lovely places to live and more going on for families then you can shake a stick at. Big commute from Gatwick though. How about Dorking, Tunbridege Wells, even Brighton?

Ha just realised , dh did not work near ' goat wick' but near gatwick!

I grew up in Wimbledon and now live in Twickenham. As far as I know the schools are better in Twickenham than Wimbledon. Lots of families here and Richmond/Twickenham ate lovely places to live, but agree with other comments, expensive areas to buy or even rent and not very close to gatwick.

Clapham Junction has fastish trains to Gatwick so you could look at areas near there - Northcote road area is v family friendly.

Brighton is a good idea if you're not set on london.

How about Horsham? Has direct trains to Gatwick which take about 20mins. Very pleasant market town, with good schools and lots of facilities for families. Brighton is also a good suggestion, although further away from Gatwick, there are direct trains that take about 30mins. It's known as "London by the sea" as so many people live there and work in London.

Thanks so much for your comments!
I know that these areas are quite far from Gatwick but since my husband will travel 40% of the time we were thinking that being near to Heathrow will be useful too.
Minipie, Northcote Road seems to be a great place! We will def have a look in there! Thanks Smile
