My DS whose 8.5mo was weighed today and the HV was a bit concerned as he's shot up through a couple of percentile lines he's now 23lbs. TBH I think he's catching up to his natural curve he was 8"12 at birth (full term) but it took months to get the tongue tie sorted and I think he slipped a percentile line.

Can not find the red book but does that sound fairly normal? Or should I be concerned? TBH he's bf and hardly eats so it's not really like I can cut anything out anyway...

You cannot bf too much and I think you are right to dismiss the HVs concerns on this one. Did she suggest measuring him too? A weight centile should never be looked at on its own.

Once he starts walking he will naturally slim down a little away Smile

She didn't measure him more of a concerned face/ head tilt/ let's keep an eye on it and reassess in a month or two sort of thing but he is tall in a growing out of sleepy suits a month or so early kind of way.

I just checked DS1's red book, and he was 22lbs 9oz at that age. He was 9lb 1oz at birth and stayed on or just under the 91st centile until he started walking at 11 months. It sounds like your DS is a similar build and is just getting back to where he should be.

DS1 is 4 now, and you'd never guess he'd been such a big baby. I have trouble finding trousers that stay up as he's skinny now.

if he is just breast fed and can't walk there's not a lot of scope for 'eat less, move more' !! :-)

sounds like he is fine.

Seriously don't worry about it! My exclusively bf boy was 26lbs at 7 months old, he is now a skinny rake of a 9 yr old and still eats like a horse! You can't overfeed breast milk Smile

Next time I would ask them to measure him because its impossible to make such a comment without looking at weight and height. If her weight has shot up she is probably due a growth spurt.

I certainly wouldn't worry too much at this stage.

As JJJ says, you can't over bf a baby. Hv should know this!!!!

Much earlier, but in the first 10 days of life my dd put on an average of 90g a day. Midwife said as I was bf that dd obviously wanted and needed it, she wouldn't take it otherwise.

I think the HV isn't super keen on the you can't overfeed a bf baby idea from a previous conversation. I shall smile and nod and carry on feeding my lovely chubby, baby.

"miaow" I've found that the only sleepysuits which survive being tumbledried are john lewis the rest seem to shrink magically time after time.

I was told recently to ensure i'm not over feeding DS which made me laugh because some days I struggle to get him to eat at all he's just big built.
