What age did you regularly use a buggy til?

I want a new buggy, the one we have is uncomfortable for dd and painful for me to push after a short while. I sometimes carry her, but that's not always comfy. We don't have a car and want to walk a lot more than we currently do.
She's 20 months old.

How reasonable would it be to buy a new buggy for around £180?

Depends how much £180 means to you/your family... and if you are having any more DCs.

boatclub · 04/07/2013 20:23

yes get the new one if you use it a lot. Both DSs were in the buggy for longer trips til 3 and a bit. You could always sell it on if it isn't going to be used by any subsequent children

Meglet · 04/07/2013 20:27

Just over 4. We walk a lot and I don't walk slowly.

Not having a buggy is a PITA these days, I have to carry all the shopping back from town while trying to stop the kids running into the road.

My ds is 3.5 and we still use the buggy quite often

IWipeArses · 04/07/2013 20:47

We would be walking a lot, they seem to hold a reasonable amount of value on eBay, it can carry them up to 23kg, so it would last as long as we wanted it to really, she's a slender thing. Not currently planning a third dc, but might feel differently by the time she's 4.
It is a chunk of cash for us, but I'm selling off things I've decluttered and I'm currently leaning towards thinking the improvement in standards of living would justify it.

4-5yo. So do most people, I reckon. No regrets!

IWipeArses · 04/07/2013 22:26

Shameless bump. Still can't decide. Blush

3yo dd uses hers whenever I need to shop or if we are out for a full day-I don't drive, she is tall and stocky and I am small! I dread the day I have to give it up!

fatedtopretend · 04/07/2013 22:30

Ps. That was a definite buy it Smile

ReallyTired · 04/07/2013 22:31

I used the buggy until just after dc 4th birthday. With ds he had orthopedic problems which made it hard for him to work. With dd she was a second child and we constantly had to get ds to places on time.

I'm selling a maxi-cosi mura if you live in the hertfordshire area and want to PM me. It has large wheels so is ideal for country walks and snowy weather.

CointreauVersial · 04/07/2013 22:35

DD2 refused to get into a buggy after the age of 2.5, so I sold it. But we weren't walking a huge amount, and she was always very placid and happy to walk sensibly on reins.

staverton · 04/07/2013 22:38

Get a second hand one?

IWipeArses · 04/07/2013 22:49

Nowhere near Reallytired, thank you though.
I've been having a look on eBay, but the type I want doesn't come up nearby. We are without a car at present making collecting anything difficult.
This is the dilemma really, the buggy we have is serviceable, it's just not quite right for lengthy walks etc. I could just suck it up and have achy arms, but I know we're avoiding the big walks at present because its not comfortable.

We used ours till about 2 and a bit but I think we are in the minority Hmm

£180 sounds like a lot but I've not bought a buggy lately. Could you get one secondhand? I certainly think a 20mo needs a buggy that is comfy for all.

TooTabooToBoo · 04/07/2013 22:54

wow, a MN thread about buggies where most people admit to using it past the age of 9 months. I jest, but normally you get hoards of replies about how the child was walking 19 miles to nursery by the time they were 3 and that using a buggy pas the age of 1 is lazy parenting.

So refreshing.

DD was 4 btw and lazy and tall

5madthings · 04/07/2013 22:57

Till 3-4urs,'we walk a lot, school run is too long for a toddler to walk, well at the pace I need to walk at.

Buy it and then you can sell it afterwards and recoup some of the cost?

4yrs old . I miss it Hmm

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt · 04/07/2013 23:13

We rarely use ours - DD is 2.5.

cece · 04/07/2013 23:22

I use mine for restraining purposes Grin aged 4. DS2 on the other hand prefers not to use it.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/07/2013 23:24

I would. 20months is still little. What buggy are you looking for?

Truffkin · 04/07/2013 23:29

I'm saying definitely buy it (but I'm a shopaholic so am always up for purchasing of some kind!)

What buggy are you after?

IWipeArses · 05/07/2013 08:35

Nipper 360. I need the bar handle and tyres to glide rather than grinding my wrists keeping the Chicco lite way moving forwards.

OP posts:
5madthings · 05/07/2013 08:38

I have a nippern360 s fab! I bought it when ds4 was two as we got snow and my bugaboo couldn't cope. We have since had dd so its been worth it but we got plenty of use from just ds4. Its a fab pushchair and you could sell it on afterwards. Its very good value for money.
