Ideas for snacks for baby who is allergic to loads of foods...

Hi all,

DS (almost 9 mo) recently had an allergy test and tested positive to oats, wheat, eggs, soya, dairy and nuts ! :(
So now we have to go see a dietician who will guide us on how to introduce these foods. We have already tried yogurt and we seem to be fine with that... so the dairy result was a false positive.

DS is finally at the stage where he wants more than 3 meals a day and while I'm waiting for the dietician to test other foods I really need some ideas on what DS can snack on.
Currently he'll happily eat any number of rice crackers in a day... but I wanted to add more variety.

Thanks in advance for all your help ! :)

batons of fruit and veg eg melon, banana, strawberries, cucumber and pepper? not vsry filling though I know.

Mini corn on the cob. DD loves to munch on that. Can also be served cold as a snack (once cooked obviously)

Hummus and crudites

you could make pancakes with flours that are ok (maybe chickpea, buckwheat, which is not a wheat btw) without egg

Sweet potato chips

Banana fritters with doves farm gluten free flour & koro milk

Sweet corn and gram flour pancake slices

Thanks all :)

Question... can he have cheese? Or is that something that can only be introduced once he's a year old ?

No, it's fine under a year but I'd be careful with his dairy issue. Do you know if it's dairy or lactose? Apparently lactose is so low in most cheeses that most lactose intolerant people can still have cheese.

Coconut is a nut, no? So no coconut milk.

MrsHuxtable · 03/07/2013 14:47

Ah, I see, coconut doesn't seem to be a nut.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 03/07/2013 14:50

Coconut is a fruit. My carton of koko says suitable for nut allergy sufferers. Home made hummus with cucumber, peppers ? Is he ok with seeds? Toasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds?

Avocado?

My DS is allergic to dairy, nuts, eggs and sesame. He snacks on tons of dried fruit, his favourite is mango but he also loves cranberries, raisins etc.

He also loves rice cakes, oatcakes, breadsticks.

If your child has a nut allergy I would avoid hummus for now as it has sesame in which is another common allergen.

mumtosp · 04/07/2013 13:51

Thanks all :)

Tournesol do you get special dried fruits for babies or is just the normal range ? DS too loves his rice cakes :) Will try and get some wheat free breadsticks..

If you want something instant/easy for out and about I'd have a look at the nakd snack bar range (might be with cereal bars, whole foods, or free from in supermarket) they are mainly made from dried fruit and taste great. Quite pricey though. I use them as emergency snacks.

Otherwise at that stage I mainly gave my DD fruit, rice cakes or cold cooked chicken.

probablyhadenough · 04/07/2013 14:04

Sorry OP but I would avoid the nakd snack bars as they have nutty versions - cereal bars generally are not a great choice if you have a nut allergy because there can easily be cross-contamination (they are gluey, sticky things that can pick up nut traces even if there has been a good clean down between products). As someone else said, why not re-post in allergies.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 04/07/2013 14:12

Ah, sorry, didn't think of that.

Agree allergies topic is very helpful.
